6 Sauvignon Blancs To Keep Your Summer Lit
Thanks to its unique ability to grow pretty much everywhere, Sauvignon Blanc (aka Sauvi B or Savvy B) is one of those perfectly crisp, refreshing white wines that seems to get more common and popular with each passing day. In fact, at one point during the pandemic, Sauvignon Blanc was the fastest-growing grape variety in the US.

With a wide range of styles and some incredible values coming from New Zealand and Chile, as well as countless expressions from California, Washington, and the OG Loire Valley in France (Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé), you'd be hard-pressed not to find Sauvignon Blanc by the glass this summer at some of your favorite local restaurants.

This week, we traced our origins back and unlocked some deliciously deviant SB's from around the globe to capture 'summer in a glass.' Here are 6 Sauvignon Blancs To Keep Your Summer Lit 🔥
WHAT WE'RE DRINKING
01   2018 Pascal Jolivet Blanc Fumé
Sauvignon Blanc from Loire Valley, FR 🇫🇷
wine.com | $29.99

Otherwise known as “Pouilly-Fumé” in the Loire Valley, “Blanc-Fumé” is the original name of the appellation created in 1937. Produced from organically maintained vineyards, this OG style Fumé is a distinctive alternative to Sancerre. Same grape, same complexity, but with different tasting profiles. If you aren’t familiar with this style, snatch this one up to experience the dry notes of lemon, papaya, mango, gun-flint and slate. In other words, it’s clean, precise and chock-full of minerality.   7.8
02   2020 Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, NZ 🇳🇿
wine.com | $15.99

Tropical island aromas and loads of juicy, mouth-puckering, orchard fruits jellysmack you in the face. The pungent qualities quickly mellow and dissipate with the sweet nectar of green pears and Granny Smith apples followed by a zingy lemon fresh finish. This is an undeniable fruit-forward style but a total crowd pleaser for the price.   8.1
03   2020 Story of Soil "Grassini Family" Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Ynez, CA 🇺🇸
storyofsoilwine.com | $35.00

Coming from the warmer inland Happy Canyon AVA, this richer, rounder Sauv B still has good precision on the midpalate to cut through its fuller bodied physique with a sour juicy profile that's a dead ringer for green apple jolly ranchers. There's a noticeable spicy hatch green chile note too. Great structure despite the plush roundness and great acid balance to offset the sweet apple and pear kiss. A bolder heartier style for sure but delicious AF. Worth a second look.   8.3
 04   2019 Theorem Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from Moon Mountain, CA 🇺🇸
theoremvineyards.com | $45.00

The 2019 Theorem Sauv Blanc saw the addition of Musque for noted florals, and the use of neutral oak, stainless steel and the concrete egg for the élevage giving it added body and nuance. The high elevation vineyards on the western slopes of the Mayacamas also lend to the intense fruit concentration - zesty lemon, white peach, and subtle grapefruit notes - while the volcanic soils contribute beautiful crushed rock minerality. This wine is both enveloping and enduring. It’s a sun-kissed kind of wine.   8.4
05   2020 Kumusha "Sondagskloof" Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from Cape Town, SA 🇿🇦
theurbangrape.shop | $20.00

Kumusha Wines works with fruit from the Breedekloof Valley in South Africa to create wines through minimal intervention and natural fermentation. The result? This is one of the more balanced, round and smooth single varietal Sauvignon Blancs we’ve tasted, while still being true to its grape characteristics: citrus, grapefruit, green grass, minerality and tropical fruits. It’s complex, evolves in the glass, and is beautifully textured. A definite meditation wine.   8.5
06   2020 Storm Wines "Kingsley Vineyard" Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Ynez, CA 🇺🇸
stormwines.com | $32.00

In the 'fuck, that’s delicious' category, this Sauvi B gem from winemaker Ernst Storm is one of the best and most fun offerings we’ve had in awhile. The wine spends two weeks on the skins in a cold soak fermentation (Skin Contact) bringing great structure and resonance. A cross of sweet melon nectar and green pepper notes flow from the glass to create a harmoniously rounded sweetness and freshly vibrant green burst. It coalesces into a zen-like splash of honeydew and white peaches. Smells like cucumber water. Drinks like salty and sour melons. It’s a downright guzzle puzzle. Limited cases made. Get after it.   8.5

Common aromatic and flavor characteristics found in Sauvignon Blanc are often identified as flinty, green, or grassy notes. However, it's not unheard of for someone to refer to the profile as "Cat Piss" which is a real scent caused by a chemical compound called 4MMP.
