LYNETTE GASLIN'S VERONA ISLAND GARDEN
OPEN TO GCFM

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

The final open garden for 2022 and the last district to visit as part of Show and Grow will be on Saturday, September 10, at Lynette Gaslin's home 275 Eastside Drive, Verona Island. The early September date will be perfect to see what vegetables Lynette is harvesting from her raised beds. But that is not all there is to see!  There are sunny borders, interesting shrubs, and lots of flowers in containers.

Lynette is a member of the Bucksport Garden Club and former St. Croix District Director. Fellow club members have pitched in this summer to help in her garden. Other St. Croix club members will be helping at the open garden.

At 11 a.m. Lisa Colburn, garden writer, speaker, and a member of Veazie Garden Club will provide a talk addressing “Downsizing and Modifying Our Gardens as We Age.”  At 1 p.m. two of our flower show judges, Carol Smith and Nancy Atwell, will choose from September flowers as they create country arrangements in recycled jars.

If you would like to come for the day, please bring a lawn chair and a picnic lunch. This is a perfect opportunity to gather in a beautiful garden. The social aspect of the open gardens is as important as the educational programs.  Self-guided tours will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  A suggested donation of $10 will help to defray costs for this event.

Directions:

Lynette's gardens are located on Verona Island after crossing the Penobscot Narrows Bridge from the South or after crossing the Edward Thegan Bridge (ETB) from the town of Bucksport.

From the East, Route1 South,
there will be a GCFM sign at the intersection of Main Street and the ETB.

Coming down from Bangor on Route 15, take a right on to the ETB and just beyond the bridge on your left will be the street sign for Eastside Drive.  Take a left and travel about 4 miles until you see 275 Eastside Drive on your right.  There is a family cemetery across the street from that driveway.  There will also be balloons, and GCFM signs on the roadside.

Coming from the South on Route 1 (Searsport, Belfast direction) and crossing the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, you can take a right onto Westside Drive.  This will be on your right just after the Blue Star Marker and there will be a GCFM sign there.  Follow Westside Drive (will turn into Eastside Drive) down about 5 miles and Lynette's place, 275 Eastside Drive, will be on your left.

PARKING is available on the left side of Lynette's main driveway and along the left side of driveway; along the roadside.  There will several volunteers directing traffic.
