—June 2022—
YES! It’s time for Vacation Bible School! I always loved VBS. At FBC Tijeras it was our biggest event of the year. We would have more than 30 helpers and workers, and lots of kids each year. It was worth every penny of the expense, every drop of sweat, and every challenge we faced. Parent Night was on Friday nights and we were able to interact with parents and grandparents.
When we started Vista Grande Church we couldn’t offer VBS in a traditional way because we met at the Vista Grande Community Center. Then the church began a Sports Camp which was scheduled the week between the last day of school and the first day of Community Center children’s programs. It filled the gap between the two. Now, it’s a full day 3 and ½ day event that touches the lives of many children and parents and offers lots of places for people to serve.
I pray you and your church will have a wonderful experience this year with whatever outreach you have planned. It might be a VBC, Sports Camp, Backyard Bible club, or something else. Get excited about what God will do as you reach out into your community.
The SBC Annual Convention meets in Anaheim, CA June 12-15. After attending the convention for the last few years, I am not going to this one for various reasons; but let me encourage you to be praying for the convention, it’s Executive Committee, and related agencies. Pray for messengers who will be making decisions on several things this year, especially following the Guidepost Solutions report on Sexual Abuse.
If you are curious and want to view the proceedings, you can do so at https://sbcannualmeeting.net/ I believe you can also view the Pastor’s Conference and other meetings as well.
I will be in Raleigh, NC from June 17-July 5 visiting our grandchildren (we will visit their parents as well since we are staying with them). Bethany can help you with anything you may need while I am away.
In closing let me share a passage that has ministered to us through the chaos of life, loss, and disappointment. We can’t control the world around us, but we do have control over how it impacts our lives. We will always have death, war, and uncertainty. We will always have the poor, widow, and orphan with us. Homeless will never end. But we can do all we can to impact those around us with the good news of Jesus Christ; the hope He gives us, the joy that is eternal, and the peace that passes all understanding. Jesus said in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world.”
Have a great June!
