Welcome to the 2019 New River Marathon, Half Marathon & 4 Mile (and 1 Mile Fun Run)!  We appreciate you running with us.

Please thoroughly read this email for race day related information.  This email is not all encompassing, so please reference the New River Marathon Race Day Logistics page for full information.
  • Weather: We will run rain or shine.  However, please know that we will follow the advice of county Emergency Management with regards to severe weather and we'll also make a decision in case of lightning.  Most of the time, thunder storms/lightning occur in late afternoon.  So we're hopeful that the morning will be cool and a bit wet at worst.
  • Camping is an option on location...$15 for tent/car camping, $25 for a camper (anything bigger than a pick-up).  We have one common fire ring and firewood on site.  Please check in at the Race Day Registration tent upon arrival.  Reservations are not needed.
  • Runner Waiver: You must submit a signed waiver at packet pick-up to receive your race bib.  If you bring a signed waiver with you, you will greatly speed-up the packet pick-up process.  Please reference the NRM website Race Day Logistics page to print your Runner Waiver and Minor Waiver.  We will have some blank waivers on site.
  • Run on the Left:  Roads are open to community traffic, which is typically very light.  As a courtesy to drivers and to comply with NC law, please run on the Left side of the road.  There are 3 short exceptions: Marathon/4 Mile in the first 1 mile; Marathon in Todd; and 1/2 Marathon in the first 1/2 mile.  You will be directed when to Run on the Right.
  • Support Stations: Please see the NRM website Race Day Logistics page for full details.
  • Venue Exit:  After your race is finished, all vehicles will be directed to exit the venue to the Left in order to avoid the active race course.  You will turn Left on Big Flatts Church Rd, travel 2.8 miles to the Stop Sign.  Turn Right on E. Mill Creek, travel 1.9 miles to the Stop Sign.  Turn Right on 194, travel 0.8 mile to 221.  Turn Left on 221 to West Jefferson.  Turn Right on 221 to travel to 421 (Boone).
  • Race Results: Kiosks will be available in a tent next to the finish line refreshments.  Print out your personal race results ticket.
  • Race Shirts: We're thrilled to partner with NC-based Recover Brands for our race shirts made from recycled plastic bottles and upcycled cotton.
  • Stick Boy Bread Co Kitchen is your Finish Line Sponsor and have their locally baked bagels, fresh fruit and other goodies for a post-race snack.
  • Kalman's Bon Appetit food truck (opens at 9:00am) will be selling ground brisket burger with Ashe county white cheddar cheese, mixed greens and garden tomatoes ($8), Grilled chicken pita with mixed greens, garden tomatoes and creamy Parmesan dressing ($8), and Smoked Gouda garlic fries topped with applewood smoked bacon and green onions ($5). Bottled water and soft drinks are also available ($1).
  • Bald Guy Brew will be selling hot coffee before the race start and will have their iced nitro coffee available post-race.
  • Amantha Mill will be performing their mix of blue grass/country/folk mix on the bandstand.
  • Marathon Photos will be on the course and at the finish line...smile BIG!
  • Shirt Sales: Any extra race shirts will be available for sale at the Finish for $15.  Although, our numbers have jumped these last 2 weeks, so we don't anticipate many extra shirts.
  • Vintage Race Shirts will be for sale.  $5 for short sleeve, $10 for long sleeve.  Cash or personal check please.
  • After Race Fun: Consider a float trip (tubes or kayaks) with RiverGirl Fishing Co. in Todd.  Kelly is offering special NRM rates: tubing for $10 per person, Kayaking for $20 per person...to any registered participant with an expiration at October 2019.  Please call for reservation and give Kelly your bib number to qualify for the discount. 336-877-3099
  • Tour West Jefferson:  After a successful New River race and a New River float trip, visit Boondocks, the Hotel Tavern and Ashe County Cheese in West Jefferson.
Thanks so much for running with us.  We're excited to be your host for the 2019 New River Marathon.  Please let us know if we could assist in any way.  Travel safely.

Kind regards,
Ken Sevensky
