Showing Kindness to Injured Workers
The holiday season is the perfect time to show compassion toward those who may have been injured on the job – and it starts with empathy.
How does empathy differ from sympathy? At the 2019 PartnerSource Employers’ Conference, PartnerSource President Jennifer Hurless presented thoughts on how helping injured workers really starts from a place of empathy, which is the ability to take the perspective of another person -- to feel with another person, rather than at them. One key takeaway: Rarely does an empathic comment begin with “At least.” Hurless presented a video from Brené Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, that reinforces the value of empathy in less than three minutes.
“We are grateful for the employees, their families, and our clients, friends, colleagues, and more who have valued our work in Texas injury benefits for more than 25 years,” Hurless said. “As we celebrate our success, we keep compassion and empathy for injured workers and their families close to our hearts and minds.”
