Spring Bulletin
To our BB friends & family,

When we kicked off 2021, like so many of you, we started the year with cautious optimism and a renewed sense of clarity. We’ve been keeping a low profile recently, hard at work behind the scenes to make some necessary changes towards a new and improved Brand Bureau. As with so many other industries, businesses, and lifestyles, we too have had to evolve, to learn how to propel ourselves forward into this brave new post-pandemic world. We’ve been examining what we do, asking ourselves some tough, but exciting questions: Why are we doing this? How can we work better together, to be better partners not just to our clients, but to ourselves? 2020 reminded us not only of the importance of bracing for the unexpected, but the importance of the simple human act of taking care of each other.

Now that spring is finally here, and vaccines are a tangible reality instead of a mirage on the horizon, we want to lean into this sense of renewal and transformation, and are eager to share some of the exciting updates we’ve been working on.

This excitement, however, is also tempered by the incredible sadness and fear we’ve been feeling too, as we reckon with the frightening rise in anti-Asian racism and violence that is happening quite literally in our backyard. One recent attack took place just 2 blocks from our office. As a studio located in the heart of Chinatown and the Lower East Side, with 20% of our staff being AAPI, and as an Asian-American female leader myself, this has been a painful, difficult reality to process and face every day. But I have also been incredibly heartened by the fierce sense of community and humanity within BB’s (currently virtual) four walls, and seeing how our teams have rallied around and supported each other. Our immediate focus has been on looking inward to ensure that our own AAPI community is taken care of, and soon we will be turning our attention to how we can better champion the AAPI community at large.

In the meantime, we look forward to doing, creating, and making great things with all of our client partners old and new, and we are counting down the days to when we can finally all break bread and raise a glass together in person.

Environment Design

Say hello to our new offering at BB, which we’ve dubbed Environment Design. It’s the evolution of one of our original core design practices, informed by our skill sets in architecture and interior design, but reimagined and remixed for how clients need to work today. Think flexible, nimble, and resourceful, where our design expertise isn’t beholden to a fixed outcome, allowing us to help clients experiment and explore, visualize and vet concepts along a broader spectrum of work.

INTRODUCING 
Hospitable Bridge

This month, Brand Bureau and AvroKO founder and partner Kristina O'Neal launched our first ever incubator program Hospitable Bridge, which champions, mentors, and funds female-founded business ventures that are improving the way the hospitality industry works. Our hope is that Hospitable Bridge can help further those efforts and highlight the power of female entrepreneurship in the hospitality world, starting with these two incredible women, Kiki Monique of Think Forward Society and Alpa Patel of Spaceez.
