LET'S GET CREATIVE NEWSLETTER

It's been a great term and a great start to the school year. We have been able to celebrate the successes of some of the teachers we work with in our Creative and Cultural Champions Programme where it was inspiring to hear about their experiences working closely with a cultural partner and the impact it had on their students. Our Young Creative Bucks Forum is growing, and we have been able to run some creative sessions in youth settings with partner ARTFORMED , all of which you can see in the 'Fresh Works' Section below.

Lastly, we hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

NATIONAL FILM & TELEVISION SCHOOL

Access NFTS : Open to all

Access NFTS is a national outreach programme designed to discover, inform and inspire a new generation of creative talent.

The programme is run by the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and supported by Universal Pictures, who both share a mission to seek out home grown British talent and allow it to flourish. We want to work with the film, television and game makers of the future, whatever their background, from school leavers to adults looking for access to the industry.

We want to engage with those already interested in a career in the industry, as well as those not yet aware of the broad range available opportunities.

We want to work with groups traditionally under-represented in both Higher Education and the Film, TV and Games industry.

Access NFTS: Discover

Twice a term the NFTS opens its doors to secondary education aged pupils (11-16 years old). The aim of this session is for young people to discover the NFTS, find out what happens at the school, have a tour of the site and meet some current students. The events are designed to be mixed, therefore allowing multiple groups to attend.
Each event will follow the same timetable:

Intro to NFTS and careers in the industry (20 minutes with discussion activity)
Tour of NFTS with current students  (60 minutes)
NFTS Film screening with intro from filmmaker(s) (20 minutes)
Q&A with current NFTS students (10 minutes)
Summary and evaluation (10 minutes)

Dates: 15th November, 20th January, 16th March, 18th May, 13th July
Access NFTS: Experience

Twice a term the NFTS will open its doors to further education aged students. The aim of this session is for young people to experience the NFTS. These 4-hour sessions will give an insight into studying at the NFTS, include an interactive experience tour of the school and opportunity to meet staff and students. The events are designed to be mixed, therefore allowing multiple groups to attend.
Each event will follow the same timetable with workshops in 3 different disciplines taught at the school. Details of the workshops for each event will be confirmed nearer to the event date:

Buckinghamshire Teachers Celebrate as Creative and Cultural Champions

Buckinghamshire Cultural Education Partnership, Young Creative Bucks, celebrated the achievement of the first cohort of their Bucks Cultural and Creative Champions last month at Discover Bucks Museum. Supported by Artswork, the programme’s aim is to provide creative and inspirational professional development for teachers and support them to build links with the cultural sector to bring more creativity into the classroom and make sure all their young people can enjoy the cultural richness of the county.

Andria Zafirakou, winner of the 2018 Global Teacher Award, presented our first Champions with their certificates and a signed copy of her book Those Who Can, Teach. She spoke movingly about the transformative impact she had seen in some of her own students when given creative and artistic opportunities and why it is so important that all children and young people should have these chances.

On Location Film Festival
12-23rd October 2022

This year, for the first time ever, the On Location Film Festival took place in the Chiltern Hills area. A series of spectacular events and unique screenings took place over two weeks and played host to over 1000 people.

Events ranged from 'The Codfather', a screening of the Godfather in the Amersham Fish Bar, Cinema Paradiso in Roots cafe, Laurel and Hardy at the Good Earth Gallery and American Werewolf in London at the Full Moon Pub.

Along with unusual screenings, community events such as Harry Potter workshops took place at the Chesham Library and window displays in JPS Stationers and Chapter Two Bookshop, displaying both the history of cinema in Chesham and books that have become films.

To top it all off, the festival ended with a fantastic musical event, Nosferatu at Dundridge Manor Farm with an original score performed by the wonderful Echor Music.

Keep an eye out for next year's festival on the social medias @onlocationfilmfestival on Facebook and Instagram!

Young People Create Abstract Map Art with Young Creative Bucks and Artformed

26 young people from 3 different youth settings worked with Young Creative Bucks and Artformed to create abstracts.

Young people used paint pens on canvas panels, to create abstract art inspired by their local area map. As a group participants explored a variety of mark-making techniques, for example, cross hatching and stippling.

Together, the groups looked at a large OS map and identified a place that meant something to them, IE a significant memory or a place that they wish to visit. Communicating reasons why that place meant something to them.

Each young people's creative colourful canvases show's an insight into their individual creative arts passions.

They all did amazing work!
