Hakawy Out of Cairo first tour in El-Minya..

For the first time AFCA is preparing for a local version of Hakawy Arts Festival for Children out of Cairo in cooperation with the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) within the framework of the “ Euro-Egyptian Cultural Programme 2019-2020 in Egypt ''.

El-Minya governorate is the first destination for this touring edition and it will be followed by Alexandria and Port Said. The performances of this tour will be held at Jesuits Association for Development in El-Minya on Friday and Saturday, 20th and 21st of August 2020.

The festival’s program for this edition includes five Egyptian performances presented by professional artists in Puppetry, Storytelling, Audio drama, tales & singing, and Origami.

Here’s the performances of El-Minya: 

* Look Away, Lulu!: El-Kousha Puppets troupe presents a new adventure for Aragoz with a street dog that leads him to the gallows but he manages to escape.


* Zaki: Of all the other animals from (The Elephant in the Room) performance that participated in Hakawy’s 9th edition, Isra Ghazali chose Zaki, the donkey, to accompany him and to explore more about his own world. 


*The Little Witch and the Eggplant: A performance that uses audio drama presented by Haytham Shokry about a little witch who seeks to enter the dangerous world of elder witches and spend the feast holiday with them.


* Palace of the Clouds: With singing and playing music,Rabi` Zein  shares with his audience the story of a wondrous palace located above the clouds.


* Hakawy El-metabkaty: In a journey full of stories, the paperfolder Osama Helmy (Oz Oz) takes us from the Arab Origami Center with his figures and paper forms to evoke imagination and feeling in a group of separate tales, which are based on the use of origami art (paper folding).

The After Festival Shows..

In continuation to the celebration of the 10th edition of Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children, we are thrilled to announce that (Dil-Hekaya) by the Egyptian storyteller Samia Jaheen, and the (Bird) by the Egyptian artist Khadija El-Dessouky are back to be performed on the 17th of August 2020 at Banati Association premises located in October city at 11:00 am till 1:00 pm. 

These shows are part of the Egyptian Focus program supported by the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Egypt.

The sheep celebrate Hakawy festival's 10th anniversary..

Celebrating Hakawy 2020, our dear friend and brilliant photographer Ahmed Hayman just uncovered a series of portraits of "Les Moutons"in the Egyptian fields. This Canadian performance by Corpus company participated in Hakawy 10th edition last March. Reem Ossama, the talented filmmaker also created a video of the canadaian sheep in Egyptian countryside . Oily Cart Sensory Lab IIAN Day..

IIAN, The International Inclusivity Arts Network invites all the inclusive theater makers around the world to the launch of the IIAN World Map of Inclusive Arts on 11th August at 2:00 pm BST, as a part of Oily Cart’s International Sensory Lab. 

The International Sensory Lab is a two-week online part-time course for artists of all disciplines who are interested in creating sensory performance work, in partnership with Rose Bruford College’s Theatre for Young Audiences Centre, in Kent, England.  

It features in-depth training and mentoring from the core team of Oily Cart: the company who pioneered sensory theatre practice almost 40 years ago, alongside guest artists and will be led by Oily Cart Artistic Director Ellie Griffiths.

Hakawy festival 2021 dates announced, stay tuned!


Five months have already passed since the closure of Hakawy International Festival 2020, and here’s AFCA started to get ready for the 11th edition that’s scheduled to take place from 11 to 20 March 2021.

A Surprise is coming for you!


As a response to the pandemic of the Coronavirus and not being able to meet our little friends during summer holiday as usual, AFCA team is now working on a totally different and creative project that would help them to enjoy learning, thinking and creating during their vacations..
