I always get excited talking with people when we get onto comics and feminism...so this month has seen some steamy spec'd conversations go online.

UCL. An IAS Laughter event: Comic Books and Laughter-History, Politics, and Aesthetics
I was part of a panel with Dr Nina Mickwitz and Prof Roger Sabin, chaired by Dr Dominic Davies. This was recorded and here is the link, my talk is at 21 minutes in.
My contribution focused on the stereotype of the humourless feminist and the relationship with comics https://soundcloud.com/ucl-arts-social-science/ias-laughter-comic-books-and-laughter-history-politics-and-aesthetics

At the start of the year, while I was somewhere near a beach in India, I was invited by Vaishnavi Pallapothu and Kirthi Jayakumar two wonderful young women in Chennai to take part in an episode of their initiative The Feminifesto Podcast for The Red Elephant Foundation This has now gone live and you can hear it here.

It's always fun being in touch with my friends the "Dundeedudes" and I felt honoured to be invited to take part in Phil Vaughan's initiative Comic Scene: The Podcast from Dundee Scotland. I'm interviewed in Episode 9 and you can listen here https://soundcloud.com/comicscene/nicola-streeten-comic-scene-the-podcast-episode-9

Comedy and Mental Health

I had an inspiring time at the University of Kent in May at a workshop focusing on comedy and mental health, organised by Dr Dieter Declercq.

A report of the Comedy and Mental Health Symposium has been published on the Polyphony. You'll see it on their homepage currently: https://thepolyphony.org/ or here: https://thepolyphony.org/2019/05/29/comedy-and-mental-health-future-directions-conference-review/.

It's also on the Kent website: https://blogs.kent.ac.uk/comedy-mental-health/.

I was pleased to contribute a cartoon that I made some years ago, based on a conversation with my father when he had dementia.
