Open T32 Funding Slots - Postdoctoral Training Program in Genomic Medicine, 3/3

Postdocs and physician Fellows
We are excited to announce that the NIH T32-funded Postdoctoral Training Program in Genomic Medicine has open slots with funding starting JULY 1. The training grant is open to both MD fellows and PhD post-doctoral trainees and provides two years of funding for trainees to complete coursework and mentored research in genomic medicine. Trainees should expect to take a course per semester covering such topics as biomedical informatics, statistics, scientific writing, experimental genomics, and the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics and genomics. Trainees also can complete rotations in areas of interest, such as clinical genomics, clinical sequencing and clinical informatics.

Application Requirements
Applicants should submit their CV, a one-page description of the career goals that includes a description of how training in genomic medicine will further their career goals, 2 letters of support, and a 2 page description of the proposed research to

Application Deadline
All materials must be received by COB on Friday, March 3, 2023.
Applicants will be notified of their status by April 1, 2023.
We anticipate that funding will start July 1, 2023.

Applicant Qualifications
All applicants must be USA citizens or permanent residents.
Post-doctoral applicants must have a PhD, MD, or VMD degree (or equivalent), or a combined MD PhD or VMD PhD degree.

Payback Requirements
Appointed post-doctoral trainees and fellows are required to engage in 2 years of research, teaching, or health-related activities. Please click here.

Culturally Aware Mentoring Workshops Applications Due, 3/10

ITMAT Education is partnering with BGS, BPP, and the MSTP to provide two mentor training workshops facilitated by the Penn Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
Attendance at a workshop meets NIH T32 grant and MSTP requirements of 2.5 hours of mentorship training.

The workshops will provide practical strategies to enhance mentor skills in:
  • Fostering Mentee Belonging & Self-Efficacy
  • Providing Effective Feedback
  • Effective Communication: how to reveal the “hidden curriculum”, consider assumptions we may have, and approaches to validate unique identities of mentees
Eligible Participants:
  • Perelman School of Medicine Assistant, Associate and Full Professors actively mentoring or planning to mentor research trainees (predoctoral students and postdoctoral trainees).
  •  Non PSOM Faculty who mentor individuals appointed to T32 training grants
  • Prior training is not a pre-requisite.

The Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) offers an Internship Inquiry Database where CHOP faculty and staff can search for students interested in internships at the CHOP Research Institute.

The Internship Inquiry Form allows undergraduate and high school students to create an intern profile. Students indicate their area of research interest, availability, previous research experience, and more.
