The original application by Lonestar for 34 homes on this site was rejected by Wychavon DC last year. The applicants indicated that they would appeal but nothing has yet happened in that respect.

The reasons for the refusal included the fact that it was outside the village development boundary, involved the best and most versatile agricultural land and, most importantly, was unsustainable because Fladbury is now a Category 4 village and does not have the necessary facilities - in particular a bus service - which would mean new residents would have to use private cars to access employment and shopping needs.

Similarly, an application for two houses at the bottom of Broadway Lane was recently rejected by Wychavon for these reasons.

Lonestar have now submitted a new application 'for the residential development of land for eight self build and custom build dwellings'. This seeks Permission in Principle which is a much lower cost way of establishing whether the planning authority will look favourably on the proposed development. Detailed plans are not required so it is a much cheaper way of submitting an application.

The consultation period is also much reduced at 14 days, However, the Parish Council have asked for an extension from February 1st to February 14th and will be submitting an objection on similar grounds to the previous applications.

By applying for affordable homes originally and now self build, Lonestar are banking on the planning authority looking more favourably on this kind of development as it has greater government backing.

The basic facts of unsustainability remain whatever kind of housing is proposed.
