What's buzzing at EarthLinks?

As Spring inches closer, we are preparing for the exciting season ahead of us!

We have many updates and new event details
to share with you all - follow along!

Community Update

On Tuesday, March 23rd we had Melisa Jaenisch, a Public Health Community Educator for COVID-19 at Lifespan Local, spoke to us during workshop about the vaccine from all angles - common concerns about side effects, which vaccines are available where, ingredients in the vaccine and more. As COVID-19 vaccines are becoming more readily available in Colorado, many members of our community have received one or both doses.

Here are the statistics regarding participant vaccination rates:

 -14 participants are fully vaccinated
-19 are in line or have an appointment scheduled to receive a second dose
-all people in this category will be fully vaccinated by mid-April
-an additional 8 are signed up waiting to receive their first dose

If you are expecting a state income tax refund, you can donate some or all of it to EarthLinks with ReFUND CO – an incredible program that helps you give back.

Donating some or all of your refund to EarthLinks is an easy way to support our mission. Whether you do your taxes yourself or use a tax preparer, RefundWhatMatters.org provides simple instructions for how to make sure your refund donation goes to your chosen nonprofit.

It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3:

1. Decide how much of your refund to donate.
2. Enter EarthLinks Inc. and our registration number 20023003516 in the Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund line on your state income tax return or tax software – or just give this info to your tax preparer when you share your tax documents.
3. Smile knowing you’ve helped a cause that matters to you!

Because our work is never done, we’re always in need of new funds to revitalize our organization and recharge our work. These programs show you how you can support our mission at a critical time of the year.

As always, we’re grateful for your past support and hope you’ll consider donating through these programs!

We Celebrate Linda!

The biggest surprise, that very few of us know, is that Linda actually grew up on the exact property that EarthLinks currently occupies! Her parents bought the blue house that once stood there in 1948! It had a big porch facing 13th avenue, and she lived there until she married. Her parents lived there until they passed, which was the hardest part of her coming to EarthLinks… entering the space where her home once stood, where she grew up, and not having returned since her dad died. It was weird at first, she said, remembering where things used to be… but in looking back, she remembered that she had a ball growing up in that house and in this neighborhood. There was a recreation center across the street, and her and all her friends would play and hang out until 9 at night.

When she got married to a wonderful man, they had two sons. The marriage didn’t last and sadly, one of her sons passed; it was the worst. “Thank God my doctor just sat with me – she helped me so much.” Still, another tragedy was her youngest brother’s death. “That still affects me – nobody teaches you how to deal with that kind of stuff.” Linda went to work, part-time at first, then full time as Billing Coordinator for a company called MasterCraft Kitchen Cabinets where she made good money!

While Linda is regretful for re-marrying into an abusive relationship; she is thankful that phase of her life has passed. Today, Linda strives to stay positive, in spite of such challenging times. She loves children and wishes she had a bunch of grandkids to babysit!  She wants to see them grow up and flourish. Through the experience of life, she's learned how to be more kind, more helpful, and to be more friendly. “When I see something (I can help with) I offer to help – I learned that.” Her advice?  “Get in the practice of doing it!”

A huge thank you to Linda, for your vulnerability, kindness, and wise words. And thank you to Kathryn, for facilitating this interview and segment!

Thank you for helping to cultivate the community here at EarthLinks.

Throughout the past year we've learned that although we may not always be together in person, the strength of this community goes beyond the walls of our garden. Empowerment, resilience, and collectivity grow from our rich soil, and we will learn from nature that we can survive even the harshest of winters.

The EarthLinks Community has faced unprecedented hurdles this past year. Your donation will ensure the well-being and empowerment of folks experiencing homelessness in your community.
