I am contacting you on behalf of the Committee that is running the Minehead Christmas Tree Festival. They are also liaising with the Minehead Christmas Festival Committee and Minehead BID are happy to support this.
This year, with its extraordinary circumstances, means that we cannot hold the Christmas Tree Festival in the central part of the Minehead Methodist Church as we have done for the last 13 years. We have always had local societies and charities decorating a tree to go up on display but this year we needed to try something different.

I will start by saying that we have taken the decision to NOT ask for any money this year.

We appreciate that this year has been financially difficult for all and we felt that the focus should be about doing something that brings together the whole town and shows that, COVID or not, we can celebrate safely and, more importantly, TOGETHER.

As such, we have come up with the idea of a ‘Christmas Tree Trail’ around the town.

The trail starts at the front of Minehead Methodist Church where there will be a handmade silhouette of the nativity, backlit and surrounded by lighting effects. On the grass at the front of the church, many charities, local clubs and societies have already agreed to have a small, handmade wooden tree, bearing a Christmas message, to create a little forest. Then, people can go from this point, all around the town, trying to spot matching trees in the shop fronts from the seafront, right up beyond Wellington Square and down into Friday Street.

Therefore, we are offering you the chance to have a handmade, wooden tree that you can display somewhere in your windows, so people can seek them out as they walk through town. You can decorate them as you see fit, or just place it in a place where it could be spotted.
This is an image of the design - they will be 18" high
We are optimistically planning for shops being able to re-open on December 2nd, after the current lockdown.

Hopefully, this will not only create an activity for those in the town (in a COVID safe way) but will also encourage people to walk the length of the town, looking into windows and hopefully, should it be appropriate for you, to venture into your establishments as they complete the trail and buy things!

The final details are going to be sorted this coming week but some of the trees may carry letters on them so people have to assemble a Christmas message with them all.
If you would like to be part of this, many shops have already agreed, it would be wonderful! Let’s pull together for Christmas, encourage people to go past all the shop windows (and hopefully go in!) and also have a little fun at a time when organised events are having to be cancelled or changed.

The deadline to simply let me know whether you are interested is 2pm on Monday 9th November and final details can be sorted after that.

The trail would be up around town from 12th -19th December.

You may have received this email before but some shops discovered that the email address had not been recognised and therefore the information was sent to the spam/junk folders. Which is why Minehead BID have kindly offered to send this mail on our behalf.

Please email all responses FAO Penny Williams at the address:  or feel free to ring 07594293199 with any questions you may have.

There is a contingency for if the current situation is extended but, in this first instance, we would simply love to hear your interest and if you would like to join the shops who have said yes already.

Many thanks to you all!
Please feel free to share with any business or person who you think may like to get involved.

The more the merrier Xmas!
