Minehead BID’s public realm enhancements
are back on track for 2021

The extra flowers in the town last year drew many visitor comments. We are in dark times now, but it is worth reminding ourselves of how it once looked and how it can be again. We have a town to be proud of with a higher proportion of Independent Stores than most, which also goes down well with our visitors.

Plans are well advanced to make the town even more attractive next year. The 41 extra BID hanging baskets will increase to over 100 in 2021.  Working with our Councils on how best to spend your money, extra streets will be enhanced, the number of plant stands increased, and old Station barrels replaced.

Even in the height of the lockdown BID installed your bunting. This too now needs replacing and will be done for next year. Extra seating and better signage around the town will all take place.

The next phase of Esplanade work is now taking place, pine tress replaced, a better weeding regime, and with BID pressure, hopefully drains will be cleared.
There are many other ideas in the pipeline.  More news of them later.

SWT gifts ShopAppy platform
to support local businesses

SWT is gifting the e-commerce platform ShopAppy to local businesses for 12 months, providing another way to boost trade.

The scheme will give people who usually shop online a chance to support the local business community and buy local this festive season and beyond.

The Council is the first in Somerset to provide the platform which allows local businesses to sell and showcase their goods and services online.

SWT is offering this service free of charge for the first 12 months, making it easier for local people to browse, book and buy local all in one place.

Orders on can be picked up from the shop itself, or from a collection point such as visitor centres, local pubs or cafés which allow customers to get their items outside normal business hours.

The hospitality and events sector as well as community organisations can also use the platform to take bookings or stage online activities, sales or virtual events.

Businesses registered will be allocated a community officer to assist and support with loading products and promotion.

Minehead BID is fully behind this generous initiative and will do everything we can to support the scheme and any Minehead businesses that choose to sign up.
The first collection point in Minehead has been arranged as a cooperation between The Minehead Tourist Information Centre and The Beach Hotel and businesses in the Minehead area are now invited to look at the Shopapp website and start signing up!

Somerset Libraries iPad Loaning Scheme

Somerset Libraries, Somerset County Council have launched a new iPad loaning scheme, aimed specifically at job seekers. The scheme is designed to help anyone – including people who may have little or no experience in using IT.

The tablets are pre-loaded with links, information and support for anyone in Somerset currently looking for employment, or if you think you may need to be looking soon. These are ‘data-enabled’ iPads which means you don’t even need to have internet access at home to use them.

There’s a simple step-by-step ‘How to Use’ video which shows you how to use the iPad and what sort of information you will be able to access, including how to develop an effective CV, tips for successful interviews, how to search for local jobs and a some useful health and wellbeing information and links.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Business Impact Survey – September 2020

Once again, instead of the monthly How’s Business Survey we would usually ask you to circulate each month, we would urge you to please circulate the attached COVID-19 survey link below for September 2020 to your members/contacts as a matter of urgency.

Following on from the previous COVID-19 impact surveys undertaken between March and August, this survey continues to look specifically at the impact of COVID-19 during the month of September, as well as forward bookings for the October to December period and will provide feedback on how things are going for businesses who have re-opened.

We would urge you to get as many businesses within your area to support, circulate and complete the survey as soon as possible as we all bid to understand and track impacts within the region.  Even if they don’t usually support the survey their support now would be very much appreciated.

The survey link for circulation is as follows:

Please ask your members/businesses to take part as soon as possible as a matter of urgency.  The deadline for completions is Saturday 31st October 2020.

If you have any queries regarding the survey please do not hesitate to get in touch and to read a copy of the latest impact report please click here.

Many thanks in advance of your assistance.

Visit Somerset Half Term Survey

We want to ensure that we are getting the right information fed back to DCMS and local government around the localised impact of the new wave in Covid 19 infections. We value your localised knowledge and will welcome any feedback together with the qualitative updates that we are requesting. Half Term is nearly upon us and therefore feel it is a good time to temperature check the industry and current impacts.
The information you provide us will then be fed back up the line to Government and media so that we can continue to apply pressure in support of the industry.
Thank you for your help
