Hays County 2020 Parks Bond Project Recommendations Presented to Hays County Commissioners

(HAYS, COUNTY, TX) – On Tuesday, November 23, the Parks and Open Spaces Advisory Commission (POSAC), provided recommendations to the Hays County Commissioners Court on proposed projects to be funded through 2020 Hays County Parks and Open Spaces Bond. Twenty three of the 25 projects submitted in the second call for projects are being recommended for funding through the $75 million.

"It was an honor to work with a diverse group of dedicated members of the Commission to come together on final recommendations to the Court.  With this funding, Hays County citizens will have greater access to parks, will be able to connect through trails, and will protect our water and ecologically sensitive areas in perpetuity.  I am grateful for the many applicants and their hard work to put these projects forward, and I look forward to seeing them come to fruition,” said Scott Way, POSAC Chair.

POSAC was established in February of 2020 by the Hays County Commissioners Court. The role of the Commission was to establish a process to study the viability and community interest for pursuing a potential parks bond. When Hays County voters approved the bond, POSAC amended its by-laws to include the additional responsibility of reviewing a second call for projects.

“This is a big milestone for us. We are grateful to Hays County residents for supporting this bond and to community partners who have pledged to support some of these projects financially. With their support, Hays County will leverage $75 million to over $130 million. This brings us much closer to making Hays County the Central Park of Central Texas,” said County Judge, Ruben Becerra.

Following the recommendation today, Hays County Commissioners will review the list of recommendations before taking action to approve the projects at a future meeting.
