CANTON, OHIO OPEN FOR BUSINESS FOR PENNSYLVANIA CRACKER PLANT

The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, with the support of Strengthening Stark, intends to hire the Ohio River Corridor company, which will market the Akron-Canton region to businesses that use plastic in their manufacturing.

It might look like the oil and gas boom is over, but economic development leaders say for Stark County, things are just getting started.

The move comes in anticipation of a new Shell cracker plant opening in Pennsylvania in the early 2020s. Earlier this month, the idea got the OK from Strengthening Stark’s oversight body and was recommended for funding.

One of the business sectors Strengthening Stark is focused on is oil and gas. The most recent recommendation made is that $50,000 should be invested to make Stark County competitive in anticipation of the Pennsylvania cracker plant opening and a proposed cracker plant along the Ohio River. READ MORE

USDA AND DOE JOIN FORCES TO INCREASE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Under Secretary Donald “DJ” LaVoy and U.S. Department of Energy Under Secretary of Energy Mark W. Menezes today announced a Memorandum of Understanding  to promote rural energy and the development of technologies that will support rural and agricultural communities and domestic manufacturing.

The signed MOU (PDF, 2.5 MB), which was required under section 6501 of the 2018 Farm Bill, will enhance collaboration and coordination between the Department of Energy (DOE) and USDA. The topics covered by the MOU include facilitating investments in rural communities.

“Energy creates jobs and provides new opportunities to increase economic development in rural communities,” LaVoy said. “The bright and innovative minds in rural communities are working to develop and utilize new energy technology." READ MORE >

ONE TRILLION+ IN ENERGY SAVINGS FOR CONSUMERS DUE TO NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION IN SHALE CRESCENT USA

Natural gas end-users, which include American households, businesses, manufacturers, and power generators, have realized $1.1 trillion in savings since 2008 as a result of increased natural gas production in the Shale Crescent USA region (Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia), according to a new economic analysis released today.

The report, Natural Gas Savings to End-Users: 2008-2018, A Technical Briefing Paper, released by Shale Crescent USA (SCUSA) and the Ohio Oil & Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP), available at OneTrillionSaved.org, finds that the substantial growth in domestic natural gas production resulted in more than $4,000 in savings per household over the ten-year period for those that use natural gas.

REPORT: EXXONMOBIL SCOUTING PROPERTY FOR SECOND CRACKER IN BEAVER COUNTY

ExxonMobil is reportedly looking for land to build a large chemical plant in Beaver County, PA.
The Pittsburgh Business Times is reporting that agents representing ExxonMobil are scouting riverfront property in Beaver County to build a cracker — a large plant that turns natural gas into plastics and chemicals.

The paper reports that brokers representing the company were in Beaver County:

“One source familiar with ExxonMobil’s search, a major land owner in the Beaver County area, said a broker offered the basic parameters of its site requirements in the region. Another source told the Business Times that at least one site in Beaver County had been visited.”
