Hope and Welcome Corners E-News: Week of March 6, 2022

News from Pastor Kim

3/8/2022
Greetings Friends!
As we journey through this time of Lent we will be doing so with Reckless Love. We Began with Love and next week we will Expand the Circle and look at who the neighbor is that Jesus calls us to love. See below for each week’s topic and Scripture and join us in person or online.

We have embarked on a Lenten Challenge based on this quote from St. Augustine:

“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder which you do not require is needed by others.  The extras of the rich are the necessities of the poor.  Those who retain what is superfluous possess the goods of others."

What do we have that is "extra"? Set aside all your extras during Lent and then donate them during the week of Easter! Select categories of extras can be brought to the churches on Sundays and we'll stockpile them for you before we donate them en masse. Stay tuned for those categories. We will celebrate all of the donations in the April 24 worship services!

Love God! Love Others! The End!
~Pastor Kim

You ~typically~ have three opportunities to worship with us each week:
9am Sunday - Welcome Corners: 3185 N M-43 Hwy, Hastings
11am Sunday - Hope: 2920 S M-37 Hwy, Hastings
Online - Facebook and YouTube: Hastings Hope UMC

"This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ. I pray that you will then be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from Jesus Christ, in order to give glory and praise to God."
Philippians 1:9-11 CEB

BELOVE

Begin with Love
In this week’s message, Pastor Kim looked at Mark 12:28-34
We again look at “Love God” and “Love your neighbor”, and how we never really meet that first
Commandment, until we “allow” ourselves to do the second.

When we take the sentence Begin ____________________ with love, and add all the we do into the blank we get closer to loving  God. Conversations, Assumptions, and Actions all take on different meanings when added to the blank. Conversations are kinder and understanding. Assumptions are more positive than negative and actions are more thought through and intentional. This week let us begin all that we do with LOVE.

Have Blessed Week

 LENT

Each year, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40- day period represents Christ's time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent asks believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season of focus on Christ's life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection.
Join the Lenten Challenge!
What 'extra' will you release each day between now and Easter?
Check out this video to learn more about the t-shirts being turned into jump ropes! Bring your old unused t-shirts to either Hope or Welcome Corners Churches and we'll make sure they get to Pat and Newell to be made into jump ropes!

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe  yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord. Above all, clothe  yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:12-14,17 (NRSV)
