News from Pastor Kim
3/31/2022
Greetings Friends!
Just a quick note from me so this newsletter can be thrown into the ether!
This journey through Lent seems to be flying by and crawling like a snail all at the same time but Easter will be here before we know it! This newsletter edition includes Holy Week activities, Easter flower information, and more. Give it read and let us know what you think!
We have embarked on a Lenten Challenge based on this quote from St. Augustine:
“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder which you do not require is needed by others. The extras of the rich are the necessities of the poor. Those who retain what is superfluous possess the goods of others."
Lenten Challenge items that can be brought to the churches and placed in the designated pews at Welcome Corners or under the Blessing Tree at Hope:
Clothes and Shoes (The Shack & Manna's Market)
Outerwear and boots (The Rack)
Shelf stable milk, canned chicken &/or tuna, peanut butter (Hand2Hand Weekend Food Bags)
Non-perishable food items (Food Pantry)
T-Shirts (Jump rope project for Operation Christmas Child boxes) https://www.fox17online.com/news/local-news/lakeshore/ottawa/spring-lake-man-creating-jump-ropes-for-kids-overseas
Love God! Love Others! The End!
~Pastor Kim
You ~typically~ have three opportunities to worship with us each week:
9am Sunday - Welcome Corners: 3185 N M-43 Hwy, Hastings
11am Sunday - Hope: 2920 S M-37 Hwy, Hastings
Online - Facebook and YouTube: Hastings Hope UMC
"This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ. I pray that you will then be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from Jesus Christ, in order to give glory and praise to God."
Philippians 1:9-11 CEB

March 20, 2022 ~ BE LOVE: LAVISH LOVE
In this weeks sermon Pastor Kim read from Luke: 27-28: “But to you who are listening I say; Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
In these three weeks of sermons we have looked at loving our neighbor, to loving those who have hurt us, to this week of loving those who hate us. God is asking us to extend the same love and mercy he showed to us and to extend it to others, no matter what.
Luke 6:29 “ if some one slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the the other also.”
It is only then by going through it and being in it, that we can fully love God and know the love God has for us.

March 27, 2022 ~ BE LOVE: OPENHEARTED LOVE
John 4:4-30
This week Pastor Kim spoke about putting ourselves into new and unknown situations. I loved her visual of a washing machine with the agitators in the bottom. Throwing ourselves willingly into a state of unknown and agitation. Sounds crazy right? Below are her descriptions of the 4 agitator blades.
Intentional – We know putting ourselves out there is not easy, its scary doing something new, but God wants us to be intentional about putting ourselves out into the world.
Vulnerable – Being in a situation that is beyond comfortable is nerve racking. You sweat, feel ill, and quite often are at a loss for words. But this is where great growth happens.
Confession – As others confess their fears and struggles, you too may confess your own. When we open ourselves up to reveal what’s inside, the good, the bad and raw, is when we are the most relatable.
Reconciliation – “the action of making one view or belief compatible with another”. The light bulb moment of seeing that we are all God’s children. We all feel pain, joy, grief, love, no matter how different we are. In that reality, we are really not that different.
Let’s join together, do as Jesus ask us to do, and put ourselves out there, to learn and to spread the word
of Jesus.
Have Blessed Week! - Wendy Elliott, Ministry Assistant

Family Promise of Barry County (FPBC) serves families experiencing, or facing the prospect of, homelessness. The FPBC Day Center (on the 2nd floor of Hope Church's Christian Ed building) provides respite for the families in the program when they are not at school or work or otherwise engaged in the community. It is their home during the day. The day center is in need of host volunteers to be a presence in the center during times when staff are not on duty; primarily on Sundays.
If you are interested in serving in this way please check out the available dates/ times here:

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:12-14,17 (NRSV)
Pray without ceasing!

Hope Church has supported five missionary families through our FAITH PROMISE giving for many years. Any monies received by the church that indicate they are for FAITH PROMISE are sent to our supported missionaries monthly. On behalf of our missionaries we thank you for continuing to give to FAITH PROMISE!
In addition to the FAITH PROMISE missionaries, we support a young woman, Faustine (Ghana), through World Vision and a child, Chandu (India), through Child Fund. Donations to these missions should be noted as World Vision or Child Fund on the offering envelope or on the “other” line when giving electronically.
