Hope and Welcome Corners E-News: Week of May 8, 2022

News from Pastor Kim

Greetings Friends!
In the last e-news I talked about hitting a figurative wall and pledged to be honest with you as I walked through this life as your pastor so that I could live out what Paul modeled in 2 Corinthians 12:9, boasting about my weaknesses and giving God all the glory for getting me through the trials in this life.

Little did I know that that would be put to the test just a few days later. We unexpectedly had to euthanize our precious dog Sugar in the wee morning hours of Monday 5/9. Sugar started life as Steve's mom's dog but came to live with us over 9 years ago. She was my companion and shadow - a constant presence as the kids moved out and when Steve was out of town or working late. Her sudden death brought me to my knees.

This was my Facebook post on Friday: I don't often ask God to send me a sign so that I know something is right or true or whatever because I KNOW that God is always with me so I don't feel the need for a "sign". But if you've talked to me at all this week you know that Sugar's passing has left me reeling. As I was sitting on the back deck this morning taking in the sun and talking to God I was wondering about asking for a sign that letting go of Sug Sug was the right thing or not. Just a few minutes prior Steve had mentioned that he hadn't seen any orioles lately, maybe they had all moved on so I thought maybe I'd ask for an oriole as a sign. As I sat there pondering, a beautiful oriole landed on the feeder where I could barely see it beyond my plants.
This picture isn't great but I know the oriole is there and I'm taking it as the sign I was unconsciously looking for.

Friends, know this: God is with you and will never desert you. I know God is with me through this pain and I will come out on the other side with gratitude for the years I had with that creature and a greater compassion for those who endure similar losses.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
Love God! Love Others! The End!
~Pastor Kim

You ~typically~ have three opportunities to worship with us each week:
9am Sunday - Welcome Corners: 3185 N M-43 Hwy, Hastings
11am Sunday - Hope: 2920 S M-37 Hwy, Hastings

"This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ. I pray that you will then be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from Jesus Christ, in order to give glory and praise to God."
Philippians 1:9-11 CEB

May 8, 2022 ~ The Power of Giving - Attitude of Gratitude
In continuing our series on Giving, Pastor Kim, spoke from 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 and Luke 20:45-47 and 21:1-4
When was the last time you sat down and evaluated what you give to the church? Have you ever thought about what you could give up in order to increase your tithe. The morning Starbucks? Hulu? Magazine subscription? Are you encouraging conversations about the financial wellbeing of your church?

2 Corinthians 8:2-4 says “for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of JOY and their EXTREME POVERTY have overflowed in a WEALTH OF GENEROSITY on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord. Begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints – and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves FIRST TO THE LORD and then by the will of God to us."

We need to get over the STINKING THINKING of giving to the LORD. It is essential to give to our church, not just what we think we can afford, but beyond. For it is when we go without and even suffer  that we become more  Christ-like. It is at those moments that we can hear and see him clearly, and become closer to him. It is a JOY that is available to all of us.

Have Blessed Week! - Wendy Elliott, Ministry Assistant

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe  yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord. Above all, clothe  yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:12-14,17 (NRSV)
