Hope and Welcome Corners E-News: Week of April 24, 2022

News from Pastor Kim

Greetings Friends!
We kicked off a three week series on Sunday on the power of giving. This power lies not just in our financial, or treasure, giving but also in the giving of our time and talent. When we are giving of our three "T"s, time, treasure, talent, are we giving God the first and best or merely what is left over?

As we examine our spending of time, treasure, and talent at the churches, we need your help in determining where our three T's are best spent. If you were in worship service on Sunday then you will have seen the survey that was on the insert. An expanded survey is at this link for our online audience: We are looking forward to hearing from YOU!

If you would like to give some of your first and best to God by assisting our community members experiencing homelessness, we have several opportunities to volunteer in the Day Center:

Now that our Lenten Challenge based on the following quote from St. Augustine has wrapped up, we need assistance distributing our extras that were placed under the Blessing Tree. If you would like to help drop me an email or a text or give me a call. ( 269.223.9944)

“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder which you do not require is needed by others.  The extras of the rich are the necessities of the poor.  Those who retain what is superfluous possess the goods of others."

Looking forward to worshiping with you this week!
Love God! Love Others! The End!
~Pastor Kim

You ~typically~ have three opportunities to worship with us each week:
9am Sunday - Welcome Corners: 3185 N M-43 Hwy, Hastings
11am Sunday - Hope: 2920 S M-37 Hwy, Hastings
Online - Facebook and YouTube: Hastings Hope UMC

"This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ. I pray that you will then be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from Jesus Christ, in order to give glory and praise to God."
Philippians 1:9-11 CEB

April 24, 2022 ~ The Power of Giving - First and Best
In the ten plus years that I led Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University at my church, there was one question that was repeated each session. “Wendy I’m taking this class because I am drowning in debt, I can’t tithe when I am not paying my bills and barely getting by.” My answer was always the same, “It’s not your money, everything we have belongs to God, we are just the keeper of it.” Once you make that connection of being the stewards for all that God has given to you, it changes EVERYTHING!

Now if you are struggling with whether you put something in the offering plate, or dinner on the table for your family, I’m going to say “feed your family first.”  Your giving during that time can be of your talents; singing in the church choir, offering to deliver donations given to the church, or coming in every Friday afternoon to fold worship folders. Then, as you are able, you begin to make a consistent, planned for, offering to your church each week. It’s prayed over and comes before all else.  A couple in one of my classes, who was really struggling, handed me an envelope of cash one night. They explained that they had sold a tractor and had used part of the money to pay down the debt, but the cash in the envelope was for a single mom in the class to pay a sitter each week, so she could continue to come to class. They wanted me to give it to her anonymously after class. How cool is that!!

Something special happens when you put the Lord and others first. You’ve taken the focus off of you, and you’re thinking of others’ needs first. You realize how blessed you are, understanding others are going through struggles you can’t even imagine. You become a blessing to others. You become content with what you have. This is THE POWER OF GIVING!!

Have Blessed Week! - Wendy Elliott, Ministry Assistant

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe  yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord. Above all, clothe  yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:12-14,17 (NRSV)
Pray without ceasing!

Hope Church has supported five missionary families through our FAITH PROMISE giving for many years. Any monies received by the church that indicate they are for FAITH PROMISE are sent to our supported missionaries monthly. On behalf of our missionaries we thank you for continuing to give to FAITH PROMISE!
In addition to the FAITH PROMISE missionaries, we support a young woman, Faustine (Ghana), through World Vision and a child, Chandu (India), through Child Fund. Donations to these missions should be noted as World Vision or Child Fund on the offering  envelope or on the “other” line when giving electronically.
