IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL ECORC MEMBERS WHO RECEIVE EMAILS
Scammers posing as managers, leaders and colleagues have been targeting people asking for assistance in purchasing gift cards. The emails usually have a subject line like this:
need your help
can you do something for me?
can you do me a favour?
If you get an unexpected email like this:
Look at the email address. You will notice that it's not the email address usually used by your manager or colleague. It's often a gmail or hotmail account, sometimes with spelling mistakes.
Double-check with your supervisor. Call your boss using a known number — not something that was written in the email.
Take a pause. Can’t reach your manager? Wait till you can and don’t reply to the email.
Remember, no member of the ECORC community should ask you to pay for something up front with the promise of reimbursement without prior approval from your finance manager.
Delete the email. You can report it to me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I will send it on to the tech team at GCO. They are aware of this scam.
Have a look at this article from the Retail Council of Canada.
When using email for ECORC business always BE AWARE AND STAY ALERT of who you are communicating with and who is trying to communicate with you.
