SURFACE – General Meeting in Budapest

Budapest, the romantic capital of Hungary has hosted the fourth SURFACE general meeting.
Along with three busy days of project works, the meeting has allowed twinning partners the opportunity to experience and visit the new Smart ReUse park installation in Budapest.

Along with three days of inspiring discussion an interesting workshop on the "Twinning scheme" has been presented together with a Multistakeholder Forum on the "Activation tool".

SURFACE general meeting, besides giving all project partners the opportunity to meet, share projects achievements, organize work for the future months, has allowed all people interested in Smart Reuse park to learn new concepts and exchange ideas.

EU Officials Firsthand Visit to a Re-use Centre Before Next Commission Mandate

On June 27, RREUSE organised a site visit to a major Belgian textiles sorting facility owned by the social enterprise “Les Petits Riens”. The site visit attracted about 20 representatives from the European Commission, including from the Department for Employment (DG EMPL), Environment (DG ENV), Market, Industry & SMEs (DG GROW) and the European Economic and Social Committee. While EU officials approached the end of their mandate, they nonetheless left their desks to engage and get firsthand involvement with this top-notch re-use centre. RREUSE warmly thanks the outgoing Commission for its keen interest and enthusiasm, and looks forward to developing strong ties with incoming officials of DG GROW, DG ENV and DG EMPL.

Second-hand dresses high fashion

5 children, 41 women, 18 men gave birth, Saturday September 29th, to the Runway show of second hand and vintage clothes in Insieme Cooperative, Vicenza.
We talk about friends, clients, workers of the cooperative who have been available to be “model for one night”, being at the same time testimonials for second hand clothes, during an event – at its 14’ edition - that year by year is more and more awaited.
Clothes presented in the runway comes from citizens donations: during the time passing between a show and the other one, the textile selection laboratory puts aside the most particular and precious items of clothing, with different sizes and styles.

Activation toolbox – what is inside?

One of SURFACE´s most important outcomes is a number of tools and instruments that are established throughout the 3 years project phase. Besides pilot actions, training and action plans, those tools should be something that will help other regions or cities when starting Smart Re-Use Park (SRP) activities.
Within each coming newsletter, separate tools will be introduced in more detail. Here is a small list of tools and instruments you can expect:
•    A decision support tool to show the current re-use situation in a spider-diagram
•    Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) to allow the exchange of know-how between re-use stakeholders
•    Cooperation Matrix to describe synergies and combinations between re-use actors in a region
•    Template of a Collaboration agreement between re-use actors
•    Policy and operational requirements for case histories
•    Calculation model to present economic and financial scenarios of an SRP
•    Training curricula´s for SRP managers
•    Quality scheme to describe quality criteria when designing and running SRPs
