Letter from the Executive Producer

June, 2019

Dear community, welcome to the heart of spring 2019. I just love this time of year with the colorful and lovely blooms bursting forth all around.

Things are truly bursting forth for Look, Listen and Learn this season as well.  I'm happy to share that our Core Team is almost fully staffed. A big shout out and welcome to our newest member joining us this month, Julie Ho, Coordinator and Sohrooh Hashemi, Marketing Manager (joined us in March). Both have jumped in to forward LLL's mission, along with Kayla Fisher, Production Assistant and Joan Sharp, Brand Manager/Segment Producer.  We are still looking for a Development/Fundraising Extortioner to join our team. Please keep your eyes and ears open for a recommendation you can make.

We successfully completed Best Start for Kids funding requirements for Phase II. And we're excited to be underway with phase II and III of the grant that ends December 2020.

April: It's a wrap!

In other LLL news…It's a wrap. The first LLL episode on feelings was filmed April 8 & 9th. In this show we visited the Tukwila Library, Northwest African American Museum, Thistle Theatre and Seattle Children's Museum. A big shout out to advisory board members Maile Hadley and Tanika Thompson for lending their beloveds to the film production. Also featured in our first episode is our board member and author Mr. Jeff Cheatham II. He did us proud with  reading his book Why Is Jane So Mad? He looks great on camera, too!

May: Focus Group

Our first focus group was a success.
Parents and caregivers provided feedback to help enhance future productions. Special thanks to advisory board members Princes Ayers-Steward and Tanika Thompson for securing focus group participants. Also, a big shout-out to Allison Mountjoy who created our lovely website. She got us up and going until we secured personnel to manage things ourselves. LLL is blessed to have advisory board members who advise, support and roll up their sleeve to work along side the Core Team.

Premiere Party

Last Friday, we celebrated the debut of our first episode
with our very supportive community. Maile Hadley MCed as we introduced the LLL staff, heard touching words from board member James Lovell about the impact of seeing oneself represented in children's media, and I shared the story of LLL's journey thus far. We are grateful to have raised $2,200 to continue our work in producing season one. I am humbled and grateful for all the hands and hearts that have come together to bring Look, Listen and Learn into bloom! Thank you, kindly.
