Happy Women's History Month, Neighbors!

From Jane Addams to Ida B. Wells, our city has been made greater by the contributions of our sisters in the struggle, who have helped us all move forward, and I wanted to make sure to celebrate their achievements. I also want to thank all of the strong and powerful women who have mentored me and made me a better leader! Here are some ways to reflect and celebrate in Chicago!
Pothole Patrol
It's been quite a first week after re-election, and here at the 40th Ward Office we have had conversations regarding multi-year planning for many of the initiatives that we have been leading on. We have also begun the Pothole Patrol!
I have driven about 65% of the streets in the ward and will be submitting pothole requests for the ones that we have seen on the streets. Next week we will complete the ward pass and will start on the alleys. If you have any to report, submit the 311 request and the city will do the rest!
Update on TIF Improvements for Winnemac Park
I am excited to announce my support of the request for Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars for park improvements at Winnemac Park. The Park District is requesting $2 million for park improvements including a new artificial turf baseball infield, field drainage improvements, tennis court renovations and site improvements including pathway paving. The request will be introduced to City Council on March 15 and will be submitted for a Council vote in April. This funding request has my full support.
There separately has been a proposal by the Winnemac Park Dog Friendly Committee to build a new dog friendly area (DFA) in Winnemac Park. Due to opposition from community stakeholders, including the administration and parents of neighboring schools, we cannot move forward with the project. Public parks must balance the interests and needs of many diverse users, and the Park District will continue to work with the community to explore other options for dedicated space where dogs can safely run off-leash.
