Grants Online: A complete list of emergency funds

This is currently free-to-access, and lists Covid-19 emergency funding. It is regularly updated and covers UK-wide, national and local emergency funds.

Sport England: Return to Play Small Grants Fund

This fund will make awards between £300 and £10,000 to help sport and activity groups and clubs respond to the immediate challenges of returning to play in a coronavirus-safe way.

Deadline: Applications can be made at any time: FYI – the programme has been extended and it will remain open up to 30 June 2021

Sport England:  Return to Play Community Asset Fund

This fund will make capital awards to help local sports clubs and organisations adapt important places and spaces to open and help their local community return to play safely.

This could include contributing to covering the costs incurred by converting existing space to meet social distancing guidelines during activity or improving a facility’s ventilation.
  • New applications only for capital funding 
  • Grants of £10,000 - £50,000 are available 
  • Applications must be related to recovering from the impact of Coronavirus. 
  • The focus is on responding to the immediate challenges of sports and physical activity returning to play.
  • Minimum level of funding is £10,000. Anything less than this should go through the small grants fund
  • Sport England will not be funding general capital works such as improvements to clubhouses, courts, nets etc.

Sport England - Return to Play Targeted Flood Relief

Grants are available for those affected in Gloucestershire, to restore grass and artificial pitches, repair and decontaminate flooded clubhouses, replace damaged electrical systems or to clear blocked drains. Other expenditures could include the hire of skips, pressure hoses or dehumidifiers.
  • For support under £10,000, apply through the small grant portal, for £10,000+ apply through the Community Asset Fund portal
  • For not-for-profits, voluntary groups, sports organisations, registered Charites, CIC, social enterprises or a leisure operator operating a single site. 
  • Local authorities, parish or town councils, or education establishments can also apply, but you will need to provide matched funding
  • Football projects offered as part of a multi-sport site are eligible to apply
  • Routine maintenance and repairs resulting from wear and tear will not be covered
  • You must submit a photo of your flood-damaged facility with your application

Sport England: Active Together Fund (Crowdfunder)

This is a crowdfunding initiative to help sports clubs and organisations set up and run their own campaigns to help sustain them through the Covid-19 pandemic and return to play. Up to £10,000 is available in matched funding through this scheme. 

Your campaign should focus on fundraising for things such as a loss of income due to the crisis, or any other Covid-19 related needs.

As of 1 October 2020, Sport England has invested £750,000, with a further £1.3m raised from supporters from the local community through this initiative.

Magic Little Grants

If you are a small charity or community group, and your an annual income is below £250,000 or in your first year of operation you can apply for a £500 grant. Magic Little Grants are available for groups to launch or strengthen their services. In 2021 funding can go towards any of these projects: 

 • Improving mental wellbeing 
 • Enabling community participation in the arts 
 • Preventing or reducing the impact of poverty
 • Supporting marginalised groups and promoting equality 
 • Improving biodiversity and green spaces
 • Enabling participation in physical activity 
 • Responding to the climate emergency and promoting sustainability 
 • Increasing community access to outdoor space 

Deadline: Applications are open from 1 March to 31 October 2021.

Boost Charitable Trust 

Grants up to the value of £750 are available for charities and non-profit groups who focus on supporting disabled people through sport, and providing opportunities for participants to realise their sporting ambitions.

Cheltenham Borough Council: Community Resilience Fund 

Grants are available for local voluntary and community organisations, town and parish councils and CICs who support communities made vulnerable due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Your project must meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Those working with particular communities which could include the clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV), older people, people from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people with disabilities and young people
  • Those that are providing much-needed food or welfare support
  • Those groups supporting individuals and groups to regain independence and to increase confidence as we move out of lockdown.
  • Those groups that are looking to return to delivering Covid-secure community activities
Although there is no upper-limit for grant applications; please contact Cheltenham if you want to make a bid for over £2,000.

Deadline: Once the funds have been allocated the pot will be closed.

Cheltenham Borough Council: Community Pride Fund

Funding is available to support community-owned projects build up community pride and to enable local groups to be more influential in supporting their communities and improving neighbourhoods.

Matched funding of up to £5,000 is available to support community-led projects that do one of the following: 
  • Enable local businesses and their workforces to thrive
  • Enable people and communities to thrive by supporting physical and mental wellbeing
  • Enable culture and creativity to thrive in Cheltenham
  • Target inequality and help to reduce the impact of children growing up in poverty

Julia and Hans Rausing Trust: Youth Centre Recovery Fund 

The Youth Centre Recovery Fund has been established by Julia and Hans Rausing to help charities running youth centres to be able to survive and recover from the impact of Covid-19.

Funding is available to provide core funding for the costs of running youth centres and delivering youth work. Funding will cover the period from 1 April – 30 September 2021 with the aim to ensure that youth centres remain viable and are able to re-open or continue to deliver services as the country emerges from Covid-19 restrictions. 

Your centre must offer youth services within a locality, and operate out of a fixed space or venue. TO be eligible for funding, your centre should be at risk of being unable to re-open and resume services, of cutting provision, or of permanent closure for financial reasons by the end September 2021.

The Hargreaves Foundation 

Grants are available for UK charities which use sport and education to support children and young people under the age of 18 who are living with a mental health condition, disability or who are growing up in poverty in order to support their independence and wellbeing. 

Your project must address one or more of the following priorities: 
  • Enables individuals to experience the mental and physical health benefits of participatory sport 
  • Ensures participatory sport is accessible (accessibility includes affordability) 
  • Provides sporting or educational activities that foster life skills 
  • Aims to improve academic engagement and attainment
  • Encourages the development of skills and personal attributes to aid future employability

The Road Safety Trust

The Trust’s major themed grants programme is for projects that aim to protect vulnerable road users. Projects might include evidence reviews, trials, roll-outs, evaluations and support for the profession through guidance or other resources. Projects already funded include research into vehicle design,  traffic calming measures, cycling injuries, brake light design, and police pursuit 

You can apply for funding if you are a UK-based organisation, both public and professional associations, registered charities and university departments for innovative projects which focus on how technology can be used to reduce road offending and improve road safety. 

Grants of between £25,000 and £200,000 are available.
