Just as no two snowflakes are alike, every bottle of wine is distinctly itself. Joining me for this week’s “Office Hours” is Dr. Sondra Barrett, whose “Inner Space Photography” literally changed the way I look at my grapes! She’ll explain how she transforms an image of a blot of wine on a slide as seen through a microscope into a dazzling piece of art. Her process is uniquely her own, and she’ll share how she channeled her work as a cell microbiologist in such a creative way.
Dr. Barrett has consulted with many of California’s leading wine producers where she has done research that has shown that an area’s climate, soils and elevation imprint what ends up in the bottle. It might be said that she can provide objective proof that the sometimes opaquely defined term terroir is actually a real thing. We’ll also discuss what makes Spanish Springs such a prime piece of grape-growing real estate.
