Newsletter April 2019

Time waits for no man (or horse archer!), and we are a quarter of the way through 2019!  All qualifiers are well under way in our four participating provinces.  We have a busy month ahead, with our upcoming AGM and the SA Open taking place this month, in addition to scheduled MAASA and SANESA qualifiers in all provinces.
The first two rounds of qualifiers have been held in the Free State, Western Cape and North West, with Gauteng having been forced to reschedule their second qualifier to April. Overall standings and points will be communicated next month, so watch this space!
Some of our MAASA members recently took part in the Griffins International Training camp and  KHOW 2019 competition at Griffins Mounted Archery, under the leadership of Daniel Griffin. Two of our Gauteng riders (Deirdre Janse van Rensburg and Jacques Horn) travelled all the way to Daniel's top class training facility at Wolvengat to join their WC counterparts and overseas competitors for some intensive training in the Hungarian discipline, and to compete in the competition. Everyone at the training camp learned a lot, and enjoyed Daniel's special brand of hospitality, as well as his excellent facilities and The Revolving Hungarian Target!  A big thank you to Daniel and his amazing team down in the Western Cape - you have inspired our archers to reach for new heights in their sport!
There will be another training camp / KHOW competition in December this year, we will confirm dates as soon as we have them.  Spaces are limited, so book early once the dates have been communicated.
Please note that our Judges/Officials workshop has been rescheduled to 27 & 28 April!
This clinic is fully booked, and we wish Karen and Deirdre and their team of helpers all the best with the training of new Mounted Archers.  Next month we will report back and share photos of the weekend!
Please remember our upcoming AGM on 13th April 2019, to be held at Koinos Estate (home of Deon and Deirdre Janse van Rensburg).
There have been substantial changes made to our Constitution, Rules and Regulations and Code of Conduct. These have been mailed to all members for comment. Please take the time to read through these changes and familiarize yourselves with them, and to send comments or requests for additions to Deirdre or the committee; these documents will be discussed and approved at the AGM. This is your chance to have your say and be part of moving MAASA forward as an equestrian discipline.
