Provincial Winners

Botha Wil Stalle hosted a very successful 2019 MAASA Nationals competition on 10-11 August 2019.  Two officially selected provincial teams (Western Cape and Gauteng) for the first time battled it out for provincial honours, and a total of 25 competitors took part over two days in four different disciplines. MAASA would like to thank every competitor (and their horse) for their commitment to the sport - especially to those who travelled all the way to Gauteng to participate and support.  A special word of thanks to all the riders who were prepared to share their horses with those competitors who were not able to bring their own - we are grateful to every one of you who ultimately made it possible for everyone to take part.

Full competition results are as follows:

Three weeks to go before our SANESA Nationals on 24th September at Misty Meadows!
El-Rico Klemp (Free State) - a SANESA and MAASA junior rider - was recently named Kroonnuus Let's Play Sport Star of the month for his sporting achievements in Mounted Archery. Well done El-Rico!
At the recent SANESA Gauteng Tshwane awards evening, all the SANESA Gauteng Mounted Archery riders were awarded their certificates and congratulated on being selected to represent Gauteng at the SANESA National Championships later this month.
A special award was given to Marna Wium (Gr12 last year), Jacques Horn (Gr10) and Marli Jacobs (Gr9) for representing South Africa at the 14th World Horseback Archery Championships in South Korea last year.
Well done to all the junior riders - we know the future of the sport is in good hands with youngsters like you!
There was a good turnout at the recently held training clinic in Randburg on 23/24 August, with a total of 9 attendees being introduced to the discipline.  We look forward to seeing you all on track in the very near future.
Yusuf Bemath and Johan du Toit have just competed in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in the Mongolia Open Horseback Archery Competition (6-9 September). Accompanying them is Amalie Raschke, our Athlete's Representative, who is keeping us up to date with all the action over there...and there appears to be no shortage of action with the Mongolian horses!  Amalie assisted with the scoresheets during the competition - we will publish results in the next newsletter.
