MIKE'S BEER BEAT
New or notable, classic or quaffable, Mike is pouring a glass of it.

Beer: Stone Enjoy By 07.04.22
Style: Double IPA
ABV: 9%
Brewer: Stone Brewing

Editor's Note: This column was meant for last week's newsletter, which unfortunately, never came to fruition. Apologies to both Mike and you, dear reader. (Error Code: PF)

Mike Sez: What constitutes a sellout? When R.E.M. signed to Warner Bros.? Not in my opinion. What about Metallica and The Black Album? That doesn’t rile me up that much either.

But what about when it comes to beer?

Even as I am rationing my six-pack of Stone’s Enjoy By 07.04.22, it has been announced that Stone is selling to Sapporo of Japan for about $165 million. Sapporo, founded in 1976, had also acquired Anchor Brewing for $85 million in 2017. Stone co-founder in the past has said Stone would never “sell out.”

Conclusion:

At least Stone remains in the hand of a beer company, which should want its products to remain top quality and well-distributed. I like this Enjoy By Tangerine & Pineapple IPA better than I thought I would. It’s really stronger than an IPA, thus it’s a DIPA.

Usually pineapple in beer results in a much too-citrusy brew for me. But this one is hazy, zesty and very citrusy but not sugary. And there’s a solid bitter aftertaste, too – perhaps best enjoyed while listening to, say, R.E.M. or Metallica.

PLAYLIST: VIBRASLAPPING
On a recent episode of the pod (#1392 to be exact), listener Jimmy Lonetti mentioned a musical instrument called the vibraslab. After doing some research on this unique piece of percussion, we discovered that Jimmy is not alone in his appreciation of the 'slap.

A search on the streamings even revealed a playlist that should be just the ticket. What else is there to say? How about: We got a fever and the only prescription is more vibraslap!
