Walk through fire with Yola? Yes, yes we will.

The (Americana) Week That Was: Nashville is Cool Again

What was your favorite discovery from Americana Week?

Monday Nov 11 - We start at the beginning and try to wrestle down the big question: Just what is Americana music, anyway? We cue up a few tracks to go along with our probing questions.
Tuesday Nov. 12 - Straight from the lovely (suburban!) home of our good friend Dan Gursky, it's more Americana Week. Let's chat about Dead Horses, Molly Tuttle, Lori McKenna... and more.
Wednesday Nov. 13 - On Americana Week's hump day, Dan recommends some more amazing artists he saw play at AmericanaFest, like Sarah Shook and Carl Anderson.
Thursday Nov. 14 - Thursday's discussion highlights Americana artists that are actually from abroad. Get ready to get all Yola.
Friday Nov. 15 - We wrap up the week with a grab bag of other cool artists Dan got to see at AmericanaFest in Nashville. Featured: Rainbow Girls, Martha Spencer, Orville Peck and Chris Stamey.
Friends of no one?

On Deck: Hardcore Week

He plays bass in Dot Dash, he's an author, he's really tall and he let us into his home to talk hardcore. You guessed it, J. Hunter Bennett is on the pod for hardcore week. Get ready for stage dive down memory lane.

Monday Nov 18 - Hardcore Week day one featuring Agent Orange, The Adolescents, Circle Jerks and Black Flag.
Tuesday Nov. 19 - Hardcore Week day two featuring The Meatmen, Negative Approach, The Necros and Zero Boys, among others.
Wednesday Nov. 20 - Hardcore Week day three focuses on the changing style of TSOL. This one will open your eyes, peoples.
Thursday Nov. 21 - Hardcore Week day four in which we pop our heads into hardcore's big tent and listen to the Big Boys, Mentors and 9353, just to name three.
Friday Nov. 22 - Hardcore Week day five concludes with the week with a dewy-eyed (well, Patrick cried of course) look at the D.C. punk scene. We spell that harDCore, y'all.

Get 'em While They're Smokin' Hot: Friday New Releases!

Shove the whole troop in the minivan and speed on down to Tower Records for these drippin' slabs o' hot wax.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy - I Have Made a Place (Drag City)
Will Oldham’s first new music in nearly a decade as Bonnie “Prince” Billy is contemplative Southern music that feels like it comes from a time when people still wrote letters. As of this writing, only a few songs are available on streaming services, as Oldham is apprehensive about such technology. Best to order the wax cylinder version via parcel post.

Juliana Hatfield - Sings the Police (American Laundromat)
Following a successful tribute album to Olivia Newton-John, this once-cool alterna-rocker now turns her attention to the Police songbook. Fans also like: karaoke.

Joe Henry - The Gospel According to Water (EarMusic)
A fitting release at the end of Americana Week, Henry’s latest is pure heart and soul, from an accomplished and acclaimed American songwriter.

Tindersticks - No Treasure But Hope (Lucky Dog/City Slang)
Listener Steven Routledge featured an advance single from this album in one of his monthly dispatches to the pod, now the full album from this veteran British indie act is here, in all its moody glory.
