Monitoring Changes During a Migration
A lot happens during a migration. With these changes, there comes a risk of ranking and traffic changes.
This is why, as much as possible, I recommend keeping the number of changes to a minimum during a migration. You don't need to change everything all at once.
By keeping the amount of changes to a minimum, it makes it easier to measure the positive or negative impact of the changes. This also makes it easier for search engines to re-index the site post-migration.
As a rule, it is best to only change one thing at a time:
- URLs,
- Content,
- Code and Site Design.
There will be opportunities for further changes later.
As soon as you start migrating URLs at the same time as making changes to the content or design, you risk increasing both the amount and length of fluctuations and/or losses.
