A Day of Celebration of Scholarship & Creative Expression

Thank you to all the students, faculty and staff who participated in and contributed to CSCE 2022! It was a stellar day of learning about student research and accomplishments, as well as faculty and staff scholarship, artistic achievements, and collaborations. The Library would particularly like to thank the 66 faculty and staff members who contributed nearly 200 items to the Faculty & Staff Showcase.

2022 Sara Gregory Memorial Scholarship recipient

Doreen Okeh, a first-year student double majoring in Sociology and Human Health on the pre-law track, received Oxford College Library’s 2022 Sara Gregory Memorial Scholarship. The award was established in 2011 by Humanities Professor John W. Gregory, Sr., who retired from Oxford College in 1979. He established the scholarship in memory of his wife, a former chemistry and mathematics professor at Oxford who later became the college’s head librarian. The Sara Gregory Memorial Scholarship provides financial support and is granted to an outstanding first-year student employee of the library. Doreen is this year’s recipient for best reflecting the four principles we expect of our student employees:

  • A professional attitude in working with the staff and their peers
  • Flexibility in taking on any task assigned to them or any problem that may arise
  • Invested in the success of library programs and the endeavor to improve upon them
  • An approachable disposition that makes the library a safe and welcoming space to all

Early Emory College Photographs

The Early Emory College Photographs are now accessible in Emory Digital Collections. This collection consists of more than 1,110 still images dating from 1860-1911. Due to age and previous storage conditions, many of the original images suffered significant damage. A conservation project unframed, cleaned, dismounted and rehoused many of the images. They were then digitized for preservation. The collection includes photographs of many important figures like Warren Akin Candler, class of 1875, President of Emory College from 1888-1898 and Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, from 1898-1935 and Yun Ch’i-Ho, a Korean political activist, Emory’s first international student who attend Emory in in 1891.
