Hello <<First Name>>

Sorry this is so late.  The AGM has dominated time and effort this week!!  Here's what's in the news:
  • Tonight's draws
  • Our new committee
  • Rugby World Cup update
  • Photo 'competition' reminder
  • Halloween party, and
  • Meeting for our cruisers.
Enjoy the evening and weekend!

Kind regards

The AGM on Wednesday was well attended and based on feedback from long-standing members, "one of the best, if not THE best AGM"  they've attended over the years!   Thank you so much to all involved.

Minutes of the meeting will be out as soon as possible but in the meantime, there's a huge buzz and really positive response to the new committee:

Alan Dawson (Commodore)
Richard Tough
Nico van Wieringen
Johan Burger
Jana Loubser
Phillip Cunningham, and
Marius Swart.

Portfolios and positions will be shared after the first committee meeting - with photos so you get to know who’s who and what they (will) do.

A reminder to get entries in - if you're keen to have one of your amazing pics featured on the walls in the yacht club.  The categories are as follows:

  • GBYC
  • Gordon's Bay Harbour
  • Yachts and boats (close up/out at sea/anything creative)
  • People (at the club or sailing)

And don't forget the photo shoot at our Medium distance race on 3 November.  You're welcome to come along join the fun.

It is still a few weeks away but don't forget our Halloween party.

It's on the 2nd of November at 19h00 at the club and dressing up is definitely a requirement so, you still have time to prepare your scariest face or outfit!

Win two tickets valid at R120 each for R20.

The Cape Town International Boat Show takes place at the CTICC next weekend.  If you win, you can attend on any of the three days from 18 - 20 October.  Click here for more information including show times, exibits and great onsite competitions you can enter!

If you are on the system and find you're not managing to open the door or gate, please check your phone settings to see that you have CALLER ID SWITCHED ON.  If the system can't identify you, it won't open up!

If you're a club member and still don't have access to the club, please send a copy of your ID to the office to be loaded on the system.

Last week Sarel van Eeden won the raffle and kindly donated it back to the club.  Thank you Sarel!!  That means we have a bubbly hamper up for grabs again this week.

The member draw is up to R1 630.  Join us to see if it goes or grows!

With major games cancelled and uncertainty about others, we're going low key this weekend.  We'll run a closest to the score if there are enough people wanting to participate, we'll put out some snacks but no galley food will be on sale.

The double-handed race was small but still went ahead.  Results were as follows:

1st Royal Flush (Marius Swart),
2nd Barbarian (Jack Hattingh),and
3rd Time Out  (Philippe Pringiers).

Next up is the Ladies Helm.  Best you get a lady lined up to skipper your vessel - and your outfit prepared if you're a gent (as you'll have to be in drag)!

Always a really fun day!

The first Kraal Bay cruise planning meeting will take place at the club on Tuesday, 29 October.

Please come along - even if you're still 'on the fence'  This might help you make up your mind.  If you can't make it, we'll help you catch up afterwards (it won't exclude you from the trip)!

Please click here to let us know whether or not you'll be at the meeting.

In the lead up to the AGM we tried to get as many account statements out as possible.  This is a work in progress and will continue.

You might find a comment on the statement about your "account being under review".  The system automatically inserts this when there's an amount outstanding for more than 90 days - which will be the case if you have elected to pay your levy monthly instead of annually.  We'll make every effort to find the source and remove the comment

If you're behind on more than your levy, please contact the office so that we can make arrangements for you to catch up.

Please note:
When our 1-litre soda water bottles run out, they will be replaced by 1.5-litre Valpre sparkling water.  We will also stock 1.5-litre Valpre still water.  Both will be sold as full bottles only.

When the current 1-litre Cokes run out, they will no longer be stocked.

We always welcome your feedback. If you have any news or views or even great pictures you would like to share with us we would love to hear from you.
Please join the GBYC WhatsApp group - click here to do that and then personal message me from there!  You can also phone or email the club!
