The new committee has held its first meeting and portfolios have been decided.
These are as follows:

Alan Dawson (Commodore & Marina Management)
Richard Tough (Vice Commodore & Transformation)

Johan Burger (Treasurer)
Nico van Wieringen (Secretary)
Jana Loubser (Entertainment)
Phillip Cunningham (Marina & House Maintenance), and
Marius Swart (Sailing & Power).

We'll be posting pics and doing introductions on Facebook over the next few days and will include content on the website.  That will happen after the Committee strategy meeting planned for next week.

Oooh we've had some stunning entries!!  A reminder to get yours in - if you're keen to have one of your amazing pics featured on the walls in the yacht club.  The categories again:

  • GBYC
  • Gordon's Bay Harbour
  • Yachts and boats (close up/out at sea/anything creative)
  • People (at the club or sailing)

Please don't hold back, we're not just looking for perfection or 'professional' shots, we're hoping to add life and warmth to our walls with a view of our world through your lens!

There's a great opportunity at our Medium distance race on 3 November.  You're welcome to come along join the photo shoot fun.

Though it's is still a few weeks away we don't want you to forget our Halloween party.

It's on the 2nd of November at 19h00 at the club and dressing up is definitely a requirement so, you still have time to prepare your scariest face or outfit!

Just in case you misunderstood, we will still be stocking 500ml Still and Sparkling water.  We will also continue to stock Coke and Soda Water cans.  The changes are as follows:

  • We're adding 1.5-litre Still water and 1-litre Sparkling water into stock.  Both will be sold as FULL BOTTLES only, and
  • The 1-litre Coke and 1-litre Soda water bottles (which we've been selling by the glass) will be discontinued when the current stock runs out.

During the year, locally-based TAR (Township Animal Rescue) is able to make use of a kennel facility to keep all dogs waiting on adoption.  This comes at a slightly reduced rate to them but the condition is that all dogs have to be out by the end of Oct (before the start of the holiday season).  If they are unable to home 10 dogs by them, they will be forced to put them to sleep.

Please help in any way you can - by fostering, adopting or just spreading the word.  The situation is dire.

You can contact them on email, phone (084 423 5991) or Facebook Messenger.  There are also pictures on the notice board of the doggies that are under threat!

This week our RWC sponsors and sponsors of the Bokke - Castle Lager - will be providing the raffle draw prize.  A hamper with thirty beers and two glasses is up for grabs!
The member draw is now R2 100.  Join us to see if it goes or grows!

There's a great rugby weekend ahead with the quarter finals in play:

England vs Australia (09:15)
New Zealand vs Ireland (12:15)

Wales vs France (09:15)
Bokke vs Japan (12:15)

Closest score applies for all games, PARA-FAN-ALIA for the SA game and burgers will be on sale on Saturday and Sunday - from 09:30 until 14:00.

...and gents in drag!!

The second round of the Ladies' helm is this Sunday!  The only rule is that you have a lady skipper, the rest of your crew can include gents - as long as they're in drag.   There are a few yachts still desperately needing a lady so please come along.

The plan is to meet at 12:00 in full Springbok drag, watch the game, have the briefing and go sailing!

The first round was such fun and we're hoping for more of the same!

A reminder of the Kraal Bay cruise planning meeting at the club on Tuesday, 29 October.

If you haven't replied, please click here to let us know whether or not you'll be attending!

I'm away in Jozi for a family function this weekend.  I am available on my phone or WhatsApp for anything urgent but obviously won't be at the club.

There are no functions booked this weekend but we have a Rubber Duck meeting on Tuesday night.  They will make use of the back area of the club.

November and December weekends are filling up fast.  If you'd like to host your year end function - or any event - at the club, please contact the office to make a booking.

We always welcome your feedback. If you have any news or views or even great pictures you would like to share with us we would love to hear from you.
Please join the GBYC WhatsApp group - click here to do that and then personal message me from there!  You can also phone or email the club!
