While acknowledging the divisive nature of our current social and political climate, it is equally important to emphasize the importance of unity in finding common ground to make a better nation for all of us. We don’t always agree, nor should we. Healthy debate, critical discourse, and critical analysis are the hallmarks of an academic community. However, in the midst of that, we cannot afford to lose our humanity and forget that there is a difference between politics and fundamental human rights.
We want to acknowledge the impact the election may have on our students, faculty, staff, and extended community. It is important now more than ever that we work together to build a better nation for all of us.
