IN MEMORIAM: STEPHAN W. KOCH

Dr. Stephan W. Koch passed away on September 12, 2022 at the age of 69 years. Stephan was a professor of optical sciences at the Wyant College of Optical Sciences and spent many years collaborating with other departments and universities. On October 21st a tree was planted in his memory on the grounds of the department of his home college at the Philipps University of Marburg in Germany. Read more about Stephan.

KIDGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN OPTICAL DESIGN ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Michael Kidger Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Michael John Kidger who passed away while on a lecture trip to Australia in 1998. He leaves a legacy of sincere concern for the understanding of his students and leadership in the development of quality optical design software for PC's. The award is a grant award in the amount of $5,000 and is now open for applications!

Students, visit with professionals at Edmund Optics to learn more about careers and enjoy something to eat  (courtesy of Edmund Optics)! Interviews (by invitation only) will be offered for Nov. 10.  

NASA LANGLEY: JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND INFO SESSION | NOV 10

Two opportunities to meet with professionals from NASA Langley will be available Nov. 10 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. See the presentation and visit with them in Meinel 821. Researchers at NASA Langley are particularly interested in meeting others who like to play with lasers and hang out in labs!

INDUSTRIAL AFFILIATES SHOWCASE & MEETING PHOTOS

The Wyant College Industrial Affiliates Showcase and Meeting took place Oct. 24 - 26 in Tucson, AZ. The event kicked off with a packed poster session and corporate showcase in the Student Union. The second day was filled with student and faculty presentations that outlined current Wyant College research. On the final day student interviews took place as well as lab tours and a pizza party. Enjoy a few pictures from the event here.

SUPERLATIVE STAFF: 3RD QUARTER PEER TO PEER

Congratulations to Wyant College's latest Staff Recognition Award winner! Cyndy Barcelo was nominated by three Wyant College staff members for the 3rd Quarter Peer-to-Peer award: Emily Davis, Caitlyn Keefe, and Belinda McCleese.

WATTS HAPPENING

MONDAY MASQUERADE PHOTOS

An amazing "Monday Masquerade" and fundraising event took place Oct. 31. Students, faculty and staff arrived (some!) in costume ready to celebrate the day, and a great fundraiser to support the UArizona Campus Food Pantry. A total of $207.88 was raised over the previous weeks towards the food pantry's cause. See the videos of the winner giving a pie-in-the-face to the faculty & staff representatives!

LASER FUN DAY T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST

SOCk is offering you the opportunity to design the volunteer t-shirt for Laser Fun Day 2023! If you are interested in art or design and would like to showcase your work, then we encourage you to enter our t-shirt design contest! The deadline to submit your design is November 25th at 11:59 pm.
