1. BCMs, churches invest in collegiate students

Early next month, Eddie Gilley will lead a group of 42 students from the University of Florida’s Baptist Collegiate Ministries on a leadership retreat in anticipation of the fall semester. Four days and three nights at Cocoa Beach will include fun in the surf, but also plenty of discipleship.

2. ‘Cree’ gathering brings Hispanic community together at NOBTS

The conference “Cree,” Spanish for “believe,” drew more than 500 Hispanic pastors, staff members and lay leaders to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in a first-ever gathering of its kind to encourage and equip Hispanic church leaders.

3. ‘The right bait’: Alabama pastor uses rap, retreats to reel in students

Pastor Dewayne Rembert considers himself from the “country ghetto.” Born in 1975 in rural Linden, he had no running water or indoor toilet but ran illegal drugs in urban housing projects to buy food to eat.

4. ERLC urges Senate to defeat same-sex marriage proposal

The Southern Baptist Convention’s ethics entity called Tuesday (July 26) for the U.S. Senate to oppose legislation that threatens to gain enough Republican support to codify same-sex marriage into law.

6. On this day in SBC history...

In 1996 - Hawaii pastors voice rebuttal to 'apology' for missionaries

Pastors and church leaders sputtered when they read page 3 of the July 27 edition of the daily newspaper. The headline announced in bold letters at the top of the page: "Hawaiians to hear apology." It was an accurate headline.

7. BP Sports Update

  • NFL: Julio Jones has reportedly agreed to a on-year deal with the Bucs. Tampa Bay could be getting a dynamic wide receiver or a player who will end up on the IR by week 3. Time will tell.
  • MLB: Trade deadline is approaching Aug. 2 and some of the big names possibly on the move include Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, and Luis Castillo.
