6. On this day in SBC history...

In 1991 - Missionary family escapes injury in grenade attack

Two children of a Southern Baptist missionary couple in the Philippines escaped injury Aug. 10 when a grenade hurled onto a stage in front of them failed to explode. The 10-year-old son watched as a second grenade landed behind the stage backdrop and a young woman went toward it, apparently to pick it up. It exploded, killing her and another woman and injuring about 40 others.

7. BP Sports Update

  • MLB: Shohei Ohtani became the only player other than Babe Ruth to hit 10 home runs and win 10 games as a pitcher in the same season. He homered and won as the Angels beat the hapless A's 5-1.
  • Golf: A judge ruled the PGA players who left the Tour for LIV Golf are ineligible for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
