Old Conference of MNWO website

Several people have accessed the website for the former Conference of Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario in search of process or policy information related to Prairie to Pine Regional Council or contact information for Communities of Faith or Ministry Personnel. Most information on this website has NOT been updated since December 31, 2018 and may therefore be inaccurate.

Energy is being dedicated to getting the new Prairie to Pine Regional Council website up and running hopefully at some point in September. You may be able to access some contact information for active Ministry Personnel and Communities of Faith through the General Council “Locator”: https://www.united-church.ca/search/locator/all/11604

For Information related to Regional Council policies, procedures and resources, please monitor the Prairie to Pine Regional Council Weekly News and/or contact the Regional Council Office or staff.

Attention Treasurers, Ministry Personnel and Ministry & Personnel Committees

The Minimum Salaries and Reimbursements for Ministry Personnel (2020) document is now available online on the General Council website at: https://www.united-church.ca/sites/default/files/2020-salary-schedule-ministry-personnel.pdf

August 30, 2019

Attention:
Ministry Personnel who are not currently in a call or appointment with a community of faith

Just a reminder to ministry personnel who are not in a call or appointment with a community of faith (those who are retired, employed in other employment within or outside the church and those who are between calls/appointments) that you may carry out the functions of ministry in the United Church only if you are in formal association with a community of faith, are acting on behalf of that community of faith, have the approval of the community of faith’s governing body (section I.2.5.3) and have all credential matters (mandatory trainings, police records check and Annual Declarations) up to date. This now involves being registered on ChurchHub. Conducting weddings under a licence that the UCC has oversight of is considered a function of ministry.

The Regional Council Executive which meets on September 18 & 19, 2019 need to finalize a few matters related to how a community of faith and Ministry Personnel enter into a “formal association” (a motion with a letter or form). After that meeting, the details of this process will be in the Regional Weekly News, sent in an email to all Ministry Personnel that it impacts and posted on the new website when it becomes available

There are also a few matters that the Regional Council Executive needs to clarify regarding the Sacraments Policy for some categories of Ministry Personnel and the Licencing of Officiants for Marriages throughout the whole Regional Council. This information should be available after September 20, 2019

In the meantime if you have questions, please contact the Pastoral Relations Minister, Judy Hare (204-421-8151 or jhare@united-church.ca ) Thank you for your patience as we continue our transition to the new structure.

Church Hub Matters

There are still communities of faith and ministry personnel who are not yet signed on to ChurchHub, the online portal. If are having difficulties locating your invitation to join ChurchHub, which contains specific instructions related to your context or have received the invitation but are having other difficulties with the process, please contact with Deb Kigar at DKigar@united-church.ca or 1- 800- 268-3781 ext. 6100 Or Sandie Franklin at ministry@united-church.ca or 1-800-268-3781 ext.3171

Some Ministry Personnel who are on ChurchHub may notice that there are inaccuracies in the recording of their credential matters. Those who completed the mandatory trainings (Racial Justice Training, Introductory Boundaries or the Boundaries Refreshers) through in-person trainings may on ChurchHub see a notice that these trainings are overdue. Only data from online webinars has been entered into the database at this point. General Council staff is in the process of updating records for all others who have fulfilled the requirements through attendance at in-person events within the former presbyteries or conferences. Please have patience as we get the system up to date

If you have concerns about this and need to clarify your credentials are indeed up to date, please contact your Office of Vocation Minister – Will Kunder for Indigenous Ministry Personnel and students WKunder@united-church.ca or Karen Medland for all other ministry personnel in the Prairie to Pine Regional Council KMedland@united-church.ca

There is still work being done on policies and practises related to maximum usage of LLWL in any given location within a calendar year. We are also still working on the list of Ministry Personnel eligible and available for pulpit supply /worship leadership.

Can YOU Ride so others can have Refuge??

Join us October 5th

You can cycle (10km, 25km or 50km), walk (5km), or volunteer and raise funds for Just a Warm Sleep.

Every winter Canadians brave the cold - for too many though the only place to stay overnight is outside! At Just a Warm Sleep, folks can access a safe sleep.

At 1JustCity we love people where they're at - and we are as low barrier as possible.

The funds you raise for 1JustCity through Ride for Refuge will provide refuge through Just a Warm Sleep at Augustine Centre in Osborne Village. In our shared space with Oak Table at 109 Pulford street.

Your walk, ride or donation means at least 25 people will have a warm place to stay this winter with access to basic services like showers, laundry and a mental health first aider.

Your donation means that Jason, a homeless youth, can sleep inside safely because Nugget, his gigantic dog is allowed at his feet!

Your donation means that Brenda can sleep inside because she's not worried about the pictures of her grandchildren in her shopping cart, it is inside too!

You can create your own team! Or join one of ours (bikes 4 beds, 1JustWalk & 1JustCycle)

Register or donate here https://rideforrefuge.org/charity/1justcity

Request from
Affirm Task/Equity and Diversity Group

At the Inaugural meeting of the Prairie to Pine region held in Brandon from June 13-16, 2019 the Affirm Task Group presented a Vision Statement and an Action Plan for the region.  Both were voted on and passed which resulted in the region acquiring an Interim status.

We must now work on the Action Plan in order to acquire full status as an Affirming ministry at the next meeting of the region in 2020.

We are asking all Communities of Faith within the region to respond to our request to let us know if:
  1.  you are already an Affirming Ministry;
  2.  if you are in the process of working towards becoming and Affirming ministry; or
  3. if you have not yet considered becoming an Affirming Ministry.
Your responses will help us to plan activities region wide so that together, we can work on becoming a full affirming ministry by 2020.

The Task Group would greatly appreciate your response by September 16th, 2019 so we can put together a plan to facilitate the Implementation of the Adopted Action Plan and work towards becoming an Affirming Ministry at our next Regional meeting in 2020.

Please respond by email to: affirmp2p@gmail.com

Any questions or concerns can also be sent to this email address.
