AC&C season is over, and the world is a better place because of it! To every Area Director and AC&C Team (and Area Council), thank you from the entire organization! You stepped out of your comfort zone, focused on what was important to your members, and found ways to make it happen. When glitches like a venue change or last minute changes to the judging panel occurred, everyone just rolled with it and kept looking forward. Thank you to our judging community for your commitment to sharing your knowledge so we can be the best we can be. It is so appreciated. Together, Harmony is Stronger!
New IBOD initiatives
I’m not sure how many of you are following along with the work of the International Board, but some new initiatives are being rolled out. We have been modeling a team approach to decision-making with our eyes focused on strategic goals that will move the organization forward. We are aware that committees and teams have a lot of cross over. (For example, most membership team initiatives require collaboration with the communications team.) In June, we held our first Team Chair Forum. The chairs of each team/committee came together to share the work of their team members and determine how other teams could support each initiative.
Very soon you will hear more about a President’s Advisory Council. This initiative will creative a valuable resource of creative thinkers to help the leadership explore new possibilities or enhance what we already have in place.
Re-charge the batteries
Summer is a great time to get a re-charge on your batteries (or... re-charge you!). I hope you can enjoy some down time over the next couple of months. I am even trying to get the IBOD to take the month of July off meetings!
Keep singing – it is good for you!

Barre-Tones entertain Austrian and Vermont National Guard dignitaries at May event to celebrate a strategic partnership..
Spreading Harmony
By Susan Klein, Chorus Contact
The Barre-Tones (Area 2) recently performed for a prestigious event held at the VonTrapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt. Twelve women, under the direction of Carol Hollenbeck, performed as the featured post-dinner entertainment for Vermont National Guard dignitaries, along with Vermont’s Governor and cabinet members. Joining them was a delegation from the Republic of Austria, including the defense minister and other ranking officials. The occasion was the codifying of a strategic partnership between the two governments under the Department of Defense National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership program.
Since 1993, The National Guard’s State Partnership program has connected over 90 countries to respective state National Guards. In October 2021, the Department of Defense formally notified the Vermont National Guard of their selection to partner with the Republic of Austria. Vermont and Austria’s two militaries plan to conduct many exchanges to mutually improve in areas such as cyber defense, information operations, military mountaineering, and humanitarian and disaster assistance response.
Among the songs the Barre-Tones performed were the Austrian National Anthem – in German – along with the U.S. National Anthem and a selection of other patriotic-themed songs. They also gave a musical nod to their hosts, the Von Trapp family, by singing Edelweiss. The chorus also spoke to the guests between song sets in both English and German – for which the guests were both surprised and pleased.
Dignitaries from both countries presented gifts to the chorus and heaped praise upon our performance and the joy it brought them. If they only knew that the joy was felt ten-fold among the Barre-Tones to perform before such a warm and gracious group.
