Hello Ward 7 Folks,

After attending two Community Outreach meetings for the proposed cannabis store in downtown Florence and receiving emails and calls on the subject, it is clear to me as well as my fellow Councilors that many in the Northampton community want City Council to consider putting an overall cap on the amount of cannabis retail stores operating here. As I shared before, City Council has no jurisdiction over the current proposed business at the old Pizza Factory restaurant, but we do have the power to put a cap on the overall amount of cannabis retail businesses allowed here.
To that end, the issue will be discussed at three relevant Council sub-committees, listed below. Meetings are virtual for now and, as usual, public participation is welcome and encouraged.
With twelve businesses currently operating and a couple more in the pipeline, exploring a cap seems to me reasonable and prudent. I look forward to unpacking the issue in detail so that any legislation we craft and pass is informed and responsive to both our resident and business community.

Wishing you well,

Rachel
