Jesus uses the formula, “Amen, Amen I say to you” 25 times in the Fourth Gospel. “Amen” is from his native Aramaic, meaning “pay attention!” or “so be it!” In total the word is found 101 times in the New Testament. Jesus himself is “the Amen” in Revelation (3:14). At IC we like to end the homily with “Amen!” In Hebrew it can be translated as, “on this I pound in my stake” – another way of saying, “I bet my life on it!” In that light we ought to be careful as to what we respond with “Amen.” Name three essentials in your life to which you would respond, “I’d bet my life on it!”
