A big State and Bijou thank you to Traverse City for making our 6-week-long TC OSCAR FEST such a success! We heard time and time again that you appreciate the opportunity to see Oscar-nominated films that rarely make it to northern Michigan. The Shorts programs LIVE ACTION, DOCUMENTARIES, and ANIMATED were also well-received. Here at the State and Bijou, one of our founding principles is to bring creative and captivating cinema to Traverse City, and we continue to hold true to that mission.
Next Friday begins our SPRING BREAK FREE FILM FESTIVAL! Friday, March 24th through Thursday, March 30th! When we opened the State Theatre in 2007, we knew that Traverse City was already a town divided between those who could afford to fly to Florida or Cancun during Spring Break, and those who had to stay behind and shovel snow. So we decided, let’s throw our own week-long SPRING BREAK party right here at the State Theatre! And let’s make it free!
So beginning next Friday we will show three free films each day — a morning little kids movie and then two other great films every single day! That's two new offerings every single day! Be sure to check out our entire lineup — which we will post this Monday —at www.stateandbijou.org.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the barrier-breaking 7-time Oscar-winning film EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE! Awarded Best Picture of the Year, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, and Film Editing — now is the LAST time to come see this wild and amazing cinematic work ON THE BIG SCREEN!! Held over one FINAL week to see the film everyone is talking about!
At the Bijou, we are featuring RRR, awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song "Naatu Naatu". This fast-paced, music-filled story is based on true events that took place in India during the British Colonial era of the 1920s. It is a bold statement about Colonial rule and the crushing tyranny those in India revolted against. This film depicts their fight for freedom and their passion for gaining true democracy. Visit your historic Bijou theater this weekend to witness this Academy Award winner!
Let's keep celebrating March is Reading month! Bring the family to see the classic Charlotte's Web on the big screen at 10 am Saturday morning. Bringing your little one to see their first movie ever? Let us celebrate with you! Let a volunteer know and your little film-goer will get a personalized button and certificate to commemorate their big day.
