Resilient Leadership Update #14
It has been exciting to celebrate with the hundreds of churches who have reached out to joyfully share that they had their Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans funded. With the second funding of this program over 60% used, we are now turning our attention to focus on how to maximize PPP loan forgiveness.
On Thursday, May 7th, we will have Stan Reiff from CapinCrouse, the world’s largest audit and accounting firm dedicated exclusively to serving churches and faith-based nonprofits back for a follow-up to his extremely popular webinar, Best Practices to Maximize the Opportunity for PPP Loan Forgiveness, which has been viewed several thousand times. There will be an opportunity for those participating live to submit questions directly to Stan.
I invited Stan and one of his partners, Ted Batson, a CPA and licensed attorney, back to discuss their thoughts on SBA guidance PPP Loan FAQs 31 and 37. In this 43-minute interview, we discussed the role liquidity and unrestricted funds might play in calculating loan forgiveness. Ted followed up this interview with an in-depth article, PPP Loan Good Faith Certification: Now What?, in which he explores what is known, the many things that are not yet known, and CapinCrouse’s recommendations.
It is vitally important that you do everything in your power to protect the integrity of your church's giving process during social distancing. Given the disruption in normal church operations, you need to rethink important functions such as internal controls when your current operating procedures and protocols can’t be followed. Download this free guide from Dr. Norma Quinn, a Horizons Ministry Strategist, to ensure you avoid a scandal and protect the integrity of your donor relationships even when the church isn’t meeting regularly.
Clif Christopher recently offered some advice to pastors who are leading during the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing. We want you to know that we see the work you are doing during this challenging season of ministry, and we are proud of you! While you manage through this interim period of negotiating through how you re-open your church and normalize all the new things church leaders like you are doing to stay connected and make an impact, don’t forget to take care of yourself—personally, spiritually, and physically. Your church needs you at your best now more than ever.
