Resilient Leadership Update #14

It has been exciting to celebrate with the hundreds of churches who have reached out to joyfully share that they had their Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans funded. With the second funding of this program over 60% used, we are now turning our attention to focus on how to maximize PPP loan forgiveness.

Free Webinar: PPP Loan Forgiveness Update: What We Know and What to Do Now

On Thursday, May 7th, we will have Stan Reiff from CapinCrouse, the world’s largest audit and accounting firm dedicated exclusively to serving churches and faith-based nonprofits back for a follow-up to his extremely popular webinar, Best Practices to Maximize the Opportunity for PPP Loan Forgiveness, which has been viewed several thousand times. There will be an opportunity for those participating live to submit questions directly to Stan.
I invited Stan and one of his partners, Ted Batson, a CPA and licensed attorney, back to discuss their thoughts on SBA guidance PPP Loan FAQs 31 and 37. In this 43-minute interview, we discussed the role liquidity and unrestricted funds might play in calculating loan forgiveness. Ted followed up this interview with an in-depth article, PPP Loan Good Faith Certification: Now What?, in which he explores what is known, the many things that are not yet known, and CapinCrouse’s recommendations.

Avoid Misuse of Funds During Social Distancing

It is vitally important that you do everything in your power to protect the integrity of your church's giving process during social distancing. Given the disruption in normal church operations, you need to rethink important functions such as internal controls when your current operating procedures and protocols can’t be followed. Download this free guide from Dr. Norma Quinn, a Horizons Ministry Strategist, to ensure you avoid a scandal and protect the integrity of your donor relationships even when the church isn’t meeting regularly.

Pastors and Self-Care: This is an Endurance Race!

Clif Christopher recently offered some advice to pastors who are leading during the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing. We want you to know that we see the work you are doing during this challenging season of ministry, and we are proud of you! While you manage through this interim period of negotiating through how you re-open your church and normalize all the new things church leaders like you are doing to stay connected and make an impact, don’t forget to take care of yourself—personally, spiritually, and physically. Your church needs you at your best now more than ever.
Last, don’t forget to visit our COVID-19 Resource Center for relevant links to help inform your strategy and planning right now and the remainder of 2020.

Stay healthy and keep leading strong!

Ready to Shape Your Strategy for the Next 30, 60, and 90 Days? We Can Help!

If you’re like many church leaders, you’re not quite sure what ministry is going to look like six to twelve months from now. But you know it’s going to be different than what it was before COVID-19 and social distancing.

We’re helping church leaders shape their thinking around five critical focus areas of ministry.
  1. Maximizing Recurring Giving
  2. Delivering Effective Offering Talks
  3. Engaging Financial Leaders
  4. Implementing First-Time Donor Strategies
  5. Aligning Church Budgets with Current Ministry Opportunities

These five focus areas are practical next steps you can take right now to give you confidence and clarity in your ministry leadership as you move through this transitional season of ministry.

Together, we will:

  • Contextualize best practices for your church and community.
  • Help you build a plan to implement necessary changes.
  • Define what’s important to ensure you are focused on the most productive opportunities right now.
  • Coordinate with you and your leadership to optimize for impact.
  • Incorporate feedback loops to fine-tune your approach for sustainability and growth.
If you’re wondering what it might look like to have a collaborator and coach join you in your ministry planning efforts as you begin to establish a new normal, we’re ready to help. Month-to-month agreements are available. Fees are based on the size of your church.

You don’t have to figure this out by yourself. Let us help you lead strong while we build a bridge to what the future of the church will look like for you and your community.
