Resilient Leadership Update #5

Last Friday, March 27, Congress passed The CARES Act in an effort to provide economic relief and stimulus to our economy as we battle through the impact of this virus. There are many details yet to be determined as regulatory agencies and financial institutions prepare this week to begin offering much-needed relief to individuals, families, and small businesses—which includes churches.

It’s likely you have more questions than answers. Horizons is contacting a network of licensed professionals throughout the week to help us point you to the most important resources available. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to sit down with an attorney, Jeff Watson, to better understand the details of the recent stimulus package and what it means for churches. Click here to watch the interview. The Small Business Administration has yet to publish guidelines to allow banks to begin making Payroll Protection Loans, but that information is expected to be available within the next week. Jeff will be back for a live webinar on Wednesday, April 8 at 9am CDT to discuss the details we expect to be published between now and then. Click here to register.

I also recommend an upcoming webinar hosted by ECFA later today to help you better understand the details surrounding The CARES Act. We want to encourage you to engage your tax, legal, and accounting professionals who will guide you and your church to your best course of action.

So, what can you do right now? Start preparing your church, right now. Every church is different, so it’s best to get prepared so that when applications are being accepted, your church is able to move quickly.

Please take the time to scroll through this entire email. We’ve curated information and insights that will help you lead well during this time of the Coronavirus outbreak and social distancing. The Horizons team prays for you every day.

Together, we are better.

Blessings,

Joe Park
CEO

NEW! Timely Ministry Ideas

We want to help inspire your thinking about ways you can leverage technology, communication, and creativity to be a shining light of hope to others during this time of uncertainty.  Just because the Church doesn’t gather doesn’t mean the Church isn’t at work.

Celebration Baptist Church (Tallahassee, Florida)

Holly Mills, a church staff member, organized a group of seniors to make 500 masks for health professionals. What started as a simple idea became a catalyst to mobilize volunteers and give members a way to serve their church and their community. What Holly learned is that people want to be part of the solution, but they may not know how.

How can we learn from Holly’s example?
  • Invite your church members to participate in practical ministry opportunities to support your community. You’ll be surprised to learn how many people are willing to serve. They are just waiting for you to ask.
  • Find ways to involve people using the skills they already have. Find out what people like and look for ways they can serve that match their skills and interests.
  • Capture the stories of volunteers on video, so you can share their stories with your church and community as a celebration of their volunteer spirit and a reminder of hope. Use this opportunity to lift up your volunteers and show your church how you’re helping your community.

NEW! Ministry Insights from Around the Web

We want to highlight ideas and information to resource and equip you to minister and meet the needs of your community while your Church isn’t gathering for your normal weekend experience.
