ECRR is the key network to promote and build capacity for river restoration across greater Europe.                    | ECRR's members and 2500 followers actively share their knowledge and experiences.                                           | ECRR has chosen river continuity  restoration as a guiding theme for its promotion plans,  activities and communications.                                                                                    #15 | 23 April, 2021

The Symposium will focus on:
  1. Providing and integrated perspective on ecological river restoration to implement WFD and related Directives.
  2. Ensuring active involvement of sector impacting on rivers (i.e. agriculture, producing industry, water utilities, energy, navigation, tourism)
  3. Being dynamic and interactive with Policy Briefs setting the stage and discussions and panels that ensure dialogue and interaction among participants.
ECRR organises a session on developing policy and planning of river continuity restoration in greater Europe. Based on a European wide survey the session will present European river continuity restoration policy and planning scaling up ecological river continuity restoration by knowledge excghange, collaboration, guidance and communication.

Sharing the benefits from river basin management; From theory to practice

This benefit sharing approach responds to a demand for practical and collaborative tools that lead to optimal sharing of water benefits. The conceptual framing follows a process of stakeholder engagement, assessments and knowledge buidling, to enhance cooperation within countries and across state boarders for sustainable river basin management.
Out of over 30,000 assessed barriers along larger rivers across Europe the study identifies 858 barriers with high reconnection potential in large and medium-sized rivers, which would allow to reconnect about 14,400 km of rivers. In the EU27, this figure would amount to 732 barriers with high reconnection potential, allowing to reconnect 11,500 km of rivers.
This webinar aims to showcase cutting edge research, celebrate successful projects, discuss challenges and promote networking and knowledge exchange between various sectors. Now is the time to come together as a community to focus on the future of river connectivity. We hope to leave you with a renewed sense of what’s possible for the world’s freshwater ecosystems!

We invite you to join us on the journey to celebrate and transform our rivers towards resilience and ensure our rivers are there for our future generations.  Global changes, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have given us more impetus for a paradigm shift and/or movement: from achieving healthy rivers to achieving resilient rivers. The road to resilience can be a complex journey with the interdependence of environmental, social and economic outcomes. Only through unlocking the transformative power of partnerships can we, together, achieve resilient rivers, resilient communities and resilient economies.
