Dear friends,

It has been a year of surprises for Les Arts George V and the music ministry of the Cathedral.  We began with a very fruitful musical autumn in 2019 featuring the Cathedral Choir and our Cathedral Organist, Andrew Dewar in a glorious and well-attended concert at Saint-Sulpice.  We continued our musical outreach with our Sunday afternoon concert series Les Dimanches Musicaux and we also continued our monthly Evensongs with an ever-increasing attendance.  We had even more plans in the works before all of our lives changed with COVID-19. Nevertheless, even as people around the world settled into lockdown or confinement, we still found new and innovative ways to connect with our community and beyond through our music program.

Thanks to our fabulous organist (and recently turned recording expert!) Andrew Dewar, we were able to produce beautiful pre-recorded Sunday morning services and Evensongs.  Our online attendance, especially at Evensong, has grown exponentially.  We now average at least 6,000 views per Evensong service, reaching worshippers all over the globe.  And that is thanks to YOU!  You and all of our LAGV sponsors sustain and support Choral Evensong at the Cathedral. We now have the kind of global reach we could not have dreamed of before, and it is all thanks to your ongoing support and generosity.

Despite a significant loss in revenue, we have kept our commitments to our musicians and provided them with regular employment at this extremely challenging time for artists, when concerts have been cancelled and work is scarce.  Our Cathedral staff singers have stayed busy recording Sunday morning services, Compline services, Evening Prayer service, and two Choral Evensongs a month.  In the October of 2020, our Cathedral Choir staff singers performed a rarely heard repertoire as part of the prestigious Notre Dame d'Auteuil recital series. We premiered our virtual Advent Lessons & Carols on the 29th of November, which has been viewed by 6,100 people and has had a social media reach of over 17,000 people. Our team is hard at work on the virtual Christmas Lessons & Carols, which promises to be equally wonderful and uplifting.  Wherever you are in the world, we will bring the magic of Christmas music to you!

With all of these ongoing projects, your financial support is more important than ever to us this year. One of our main sources of space rental revenue, Gospel Dream, has cancelled all of their concerts since March of this year, creating a deficit of over €25,000 in revenue for LAGV. This will significantly impact our annual participation in the Cathedral music budget as well as prevent us from financially supporting our professional musicians and sponsoring Choral Evensongs.  I therefore ask you to prayerfully consider increasing your sponsor contribution to Les Arts George V this year, so that we can continue to provide the wonderful musical offering that we are all so proud of at the American Cathedral, and to allow us to continue to reach even more worshippers around the world. To do so, simply click the button below and follow the instructions on the LAGV website.
I would like to support Music at the Cathedral!
The 2020 fiscal year is almost over and so donations given before 31 December will count for a tax deduction this year.  After January 1st the tax deductions will be for next year.

We wish you and all your loved ones a safe, and merry holiday season.

With gratitude,
Canon Zachary Ullery
Director of Music

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my donation go?
It pays for the cathedral choir staff singers, choral evensongs, cathedral choir concerts, our services of Lessons and Carols, and towards the upkeep of the aging historic Cavaillé-Coll pipe organ and historic Cole Porter piano.

Is it tax deductible?

I already pledge to the Cathedral.
Great!  Please continue to do so! The music ministry of the cathedral is made possible by the generous pledges of members each year to its annual operating budget.  Additional funding through Les Arts George V allows us to pay our professional staff singer musicians, experience the beauty of Choral Evensong, and to sustain a broader artistic and spiritual outreach to the greater Paris community.  Your contributions made to Les Arts George V are understood to be above and beyond your normal level of support given to the Cathedral.
