November 2021 Issue
Greetings to my Pilgrim Church Family,

The last year and eight months were extremely difficult due to COVID-19 and its restrictions.  As a result, we need in a more determined way to continue to execute and improve upon the church mandate from 2020:
  1. Improved communication regarding church-wide information and activities via: newsletter, robocalls, emails and text messages.
  2. Improved use and the increase of technology in Pilgrim ministries: broadcasting of Worship Services and events and Movie Night for the Youth with Rev. Gerald Dodd.
  3. Increase of church membership:
    • Each 1 Win 1 Discipleship Classes/Training
    • Monthly fellowship activities to create an atmosphere of unity, healing, and forgiveness to the church body.
      • October: Hallelujah Fellowship Community Outreach
      • November: Football Sunday
      • December: Support the gift card mission of the Women’s Ministry and adopt 2-3 families from Maxfield Elementary School
      • Partnering with different (youth) organizations
      • Sunday School returns as â€śSunday Morning Bible Fellowship”, Nov. 14th at 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. with teachers Dea. Clarence Kenon and Dea. Emer. Don Parries
      • New kind of Bible Study: Bible Book Club (Virtual), meets Wednesdays, 1st book â€śThe Shack" by William P. Young with facilitator Rev. Dr. Stephanie Burrage
Because COVID has changed how the world does business and engages socially it impacts how we do ministry. Therefore, to be more approachable to the unchurched as well as the churched, we will shift in the following direction:
  • “Come As You Are” (in dress and in spirit) therefore accepting of ALL people (James 2:1-4)
  • Consolidating events (Usher Anniversary, Women’s Day, Men’s Day, etc.)
  • Monthly Leadership Meetings
I want to say thank you to:
  • All of our officers who remained in place and continued to serve during COVID-19 and welcome to our new officers.
  • All of you for your faithful presence, participation and stewardship throughout this time as we celebrate 17 years together.
Please keep an eye out for our newsletter, as that is a primary source of information for Pilgrim news and information. Again, thank you and God bless you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Charles L. Gill, Senior Pastor

Pilgrim's New Marquee

Greetings Pilgrim Family and Friends,

As you may know, Pilgrim has been undergoing some very exciting technological upgrades:
  • projector screens in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall to facilitate live streaming of the services and other events in the life of the Church,
  • monitors at the side entrances of the Church to facilitate communications about events at the Church,
  • and now a new marquee at the corner of Central and Grotto as a communications tool to the Community.
When you are near the neighborhood make a point to ride by to see the new marquee! It will energize you!!

Special thanks go out to Don Blevins who spearheaded and shepherded the efforts to purchase and install the new marquee. Special thanks also to Rev. Dodd, the live streaming team, and the communications team for their continued efforts to bring the services and the events of the Church to all Pilgrim family and friends as we continue to navigate the effects of the pandemic on the life of the Church. Your efforts have been invaluable and you are greatly appreciated!!

Blessings,
Stephanie Dilworth, Chair Board of Trustees

The Pilgrim Ushers got together to discuss what’s going on in each of our lives.
  • It was good to have Stephanie Reid with us even though she will be leaving us in the near future.
  • Also, our own Gwender Sterling who moved away 18 months ago flew in to join our gathering. What a surprise!
Even though our active number of ushers is down dramatically the spirit of camaraderie between each of us lingers on.

Spotlight on Rev. Frederick Gillespie, Associate Minister
Rev. Fred Gillespie has been employed as an electrical engineer with 3M Company for 31 years. Rev. Gillespie initially served on Pilgrim’s ministerial staff in a variety of areas, including Bible Study teacher, Sunday School teacher, and audio tech.
Rev. Gillespie is re-joining the Pilgrim ministerial staff after serving as the senior pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Manly, IA for 15 years.
Advent Volunteers Needed
November 28, 2021 is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word meaning  "To Come". This special season of the Christian year includes the four Sundays before Christmas Day.
It is a time to prepare for God's greatest gift, the birth of Jesus Christ. At Pilgrim we light a candle and say a prayer on each of those Sundays. If you or your family would like to participate in the candle lighting ceremony, please contact Mrs. Beverly Galloway at 612-749-7044.
December Face to Face Women's Ministry Outreach: December 5th - 12th, 2021.

Pilgrim's Women's Ministry will host the 2nd annual Christmas $5.00 Gift Card Drive. The gift cards will be donated to Face to Face. This St. Paul Organization provides comprehensive medical care, mental healthcare, housing support, case management, employment training and support, and other social services to low-income and insecurely housed youth ages 11 to 24.

With the holidays coming up, please help us share gifts with the Face to Face clients. We need Target and McDonald’s Gift cards in $5.00 increments. Please enclose your cards in a sealed envelope marked "Women’s Ministry". You can give your card(s) to the ushers or to the Church Administrator.

Grief and Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving seems like the appropriate time to reflect on all the things that we are thankful for. After we experience a loss, we tend to focus on what we no longer have. We have lost a loved one.
The one who sat at the Thanksgiving table, told the jokes, and made you feel that life was at its best when they were present. Your heart aches, your mind is confused, and the emptiness you feel makes you want to skip this holiday! However, even in the darkness, The True Source of Thankfulness rises to the surface.

Expressing thankfulness to God, helps us to see how He continues to work in our lives. When we are truly thankful for God's power at work in us and God's gift of life, we cannot contain a spirit of gratitude that is contagious, infectious, and healing.

On this Thanksgiving Day, prayerfully read these scriptures. They can help you connect with your True Source of Thankfulness. God is still doing great things for you!

  • "Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever." Psalm 107:1.
  • "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1Corinthians 15:57
  • "Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever." Psalm 107:1
  • "I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers." Ephesians 1:6
  • "Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish." John 6:11
  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6
  • "Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it." Mark 14:23
