Spring is coming and the days are getting longer!

Summer office hours will begin Dec 1st 2020, when the marina office will be open 7 days a week from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm for your convenience.

Tutukaka Marina is still at level 2, let’s hope we go down a level, not up!

There are 3 methods of track and tracing for Tutukaka Marina users:
1 - sign in physically at the lobby of marina office building
2 - go to marina website: www.tutukaka.co.nz and register online
3 - use QR coding method, with Codes stationed at pier gates and marina office entrance

1st stage of sleeving job completed

– Our ambitious sleeving project to protect piles for the future has wound down. A big thanks to the team at Total Marine Services who did a terrific job.
Rope hangers and D’s attached to piles are still being installed and the system seems to work really well.

Other jobs that staff are hoping to complete before Christmas:

Pier pedestal and water blasting

Poor Knights garden planting
A big thanks to Guy Bowden at Tawapou Nurseries

Extra dog bag dispenser

Fuel jetty repairs and upgrades

Added security cameras

Disabled car parks allocated in the marina's car parking area.

Splicing services have recommenced at Tutukaka Marina, so get your orders in before November 2020.

Also, don’t forget that if marina staff are too busy to do your job, ring Gerry Jacobs on 027 518 33 83 for splicing service.

Spring work rules for boat owners:

Everyone needs to get their pre-summer jobs done. Some jobs just can’t be carried out on the piers: sanding, large scale painting, metal grinding, welding and ANY job where debris goes in the water.

Waste oil facility

Also, don’t forget to empty oil changes into the waste oil tanks where your plastic containers, oil filters and oil are all being recycled.

If you need to carry any of the above out, contact Tony and Mark at the Tutukaka Slipway on: 02102247461

Attention berth holders:
Tutukaka Marina Management Trust elections to be held soon.  Below is the timeline:

October 7th - letter to be sent to all license holders advising them of annual meeting date and calling for nominations

October 28th - nominations close

November 3rd - if an election is required, ballot paper to be sent to all license holders.

November 27th - voting closes and votes counted at 12 noon.

The berth license holders meeting will be at 3pm the same day with results announced at the meeting. Refreshments and snacks to follow meeting.

Marina Fees:
The Trust have decided to postpone raising any marina fees this financial year given the challenging times created by Covid 19 and consequent lockdowns.
ASF’s: annual service fees will be sent out mid-September for an Oct 1st 2020 payment in advance.

Going away this summer? Don’t forget to contact the marina office by email, office phone or VHF 7 to advise number of days away. Days away credits are applied between Dec 1st 2020 and April 30th 2021.

Clean Hull requirements:
If your boat is gone from Tutukaka Marina for LONGER than 30 days, you will be asked to water blast unless you have been recently antifouled (within the last 6 months) before entering the marina again. We will also accept a “clean hull” cert card from Northland Regional Council if they check your hull while you are cruising.

Events at Tutukaka Marina:
Thanks to the Tutukaka Marina Management Trust and Whangarei District Council the summer season brings fun and exciting events around the Marina property and especially on the Marina Reserve. The organisers and promoters do an amazing job, so make sure you get out and support these great days out:

Tutukaka Coast Youth Sailing Club:
The Sailing club is cranking up for a busy 20/21 season for the kids! With America’s Cup coming up sailing has never been more fun.  Make sure you get your child involved in this terrific club - proudly supported by the Tutukaka Marina Management Trust.
Starting Thursday October 15th and (other than a break over Christmas and January), every Thursday until April 15th.

Olympic Sailors in Tutukaka
The New Zealand Olympic Sailing team are keeping up to speed after their events were postponed in Japan due to Covid19.  The event is rescheduled to happen next year so the team are practising hard to maintain and hone their skills.   A small fleet of Lasers, 420's 470's and Nacra17's, along with a few chase boats, spent a week here recently.
Their coach told us that they have been monitoring the sailing and weather conditions in Japan where they were supposed to compete.  On the same day that corresponded to day 5 of their competition, if it had gone ahead in Japan, they would have had an onshore breeze of 10 - 15 knots and a swell of 1 - 2 metres - the team headed out of the Tutukaka harbour to an onshore breeze of 10 - 15 knots and a swell of 1 - 2 metres!  So perfect training conditions for the team.  They hope to come here regularly as part of their training, so keep an eye out for these spectacular little yachts, practising out in the open ocean!

Don’t forget your local businesses around the Tutukaka coast!

With everything that has happened with Covid 19 and lockdown, your local businesses need your support more than ever on the Tutukaka Coast and the wider district.

Insurance - Certificate of Currency
Thank you to berth holders and renters for providing copies of their renewed annual Certificate of Currency to the marina office. Keep them coming upon request! Cleaning Boats

Tutukaka Marina is committed to protecting our water ways and highly recommends the use of Bio-Zyme, a high performance non-toxic, non-allergenic and biodegradable multiple enzyme degreaser, odour controller and cleaner.  This is an environmentally preferable cleaning product.  Bio-Zyme         (1 litre) available for purchase from the Marina office for $28.00.

Note: When using water hoses please ensure they have been turned off after use.

Ramp Passes
No need to search for $2.00 every time you launch from the ramp, just purchase an annual ramp pass available from the office for $30.00 to display on the dashboard of your vehicle.
