John Kennedy MP: Fortnightly Update. My mission is to provide service and leadership in Hawthorn and bordering lands in Camberwell, Canterbury and Glen Iris, in fostering the world as fair, productive and compassionate.
Where to Find John Kennedy MP
John's Update
ANZAC Day I acknowledge all who rose early on Monday, 25 April, to pay tribute to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. I wish to further thank the RSL members and volunteers who devised the services at Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch and RSL Camberwell City Sub Branch. Lest we forget.
It was a pleasure to host Tim Pallas MP, the Treasurer of Victoria, Kooyong Labor candidate, Dr Peter Lynch, and the Glenferrie Traders Association at Le Clec Café to discuss key economic developments in this area. Tim is delivering his 8th State Budget this week, and I thank him for joining us in Hawthorn to listen and speak directly to small business owners. Tim Pallas has been instrumental in securing financial support in Hawthorn. Over $129 million in COVID support has been provided to businesses in Boroondara.
Paul Hamer MP, Member for Box Hill, and I welcomed the Minister for Community Sport and Youth, Ros Spence MP to Canterbury Sports Ground for a tour of their current facilities which are in need of redevelopment. Paul and I have been working closely with tenant clubs to lobby the extra funding needed. I have a petition going to support these upgrades, if you would like your voice to be heard, please sign now as the petition will be closing tonight.
Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Creative Industries, Danny Pearson MP, recently joined me in Hawthorn to visit Lido Cinemas and Nevermind Bar to discuss COVID recoveries and live music. Lido Cinema’s building has a long history of entertaining locals, and Nevermind Bar is an iconic music venue in Hawthorn supporting local artists. I encourage you to support our local businesses, there is no shortage of great flicks and live music acts at the moment!
From today, 2 May, my office will host a food drive for the ASRC until Monday, 6 June. You can drop off relevant items to the tub in the foyer of my electorate office. The ASRC Foodbank provides food security for people seeking asylum. The food they provide is healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate for their members. The ASRC also provides personal and household essentials such as shampoo, dishwashing liquid, laundry powder and toilet. For a list of appropriate items, click the banner on the right.

The Victorian Government is improving accessibility, safety and comfort across the public transport network. Train stations, bus stops, and tram stops across Victoria will be upgraded through a $157.8 million package of works included in the Victorian Budget 2022/23. Development and planning work will commence to improve accessibility of the following stations in our electorate: Auburn, East Camberwell, Canterbury, Willison, and Hartwell stations. This is in addition to the planning and development work already underway at Riversdale Station.
Sport brings Victorians together, and it has great power to make change. The only way to prevent violence against women is to change the culture that allows it to occur. In sport, we have the power to create a safer world for women and girls. Information on how to identify sexism, and support pathways for both men and women are available on the Respect Victoria website.
